How to use this age calculator
- Select your date of birth from the three dropdowns. The day list adjusts itself to the month and year, so an impossible date like 31 February cannot be entered.
- Set the "age as on" date. It starts at today's date. For a recruitment application, change it to the cut-off date given in the notification — the quick buttons cover the 1 July, 1 August and 1 January cut-offs most commonly used.

How age is calculated for government jobs
Indian recruitment boards do not use your age today. They use your completed age on a fixed cut-off date stated in the notification — commonly 1 January, 1 July or 1 August of the recruitment year, or the closing date of the online application. Two candidates who apply on the same day can therefore have different eligibility, because their ages are measured on that one common date.
The upper limit is read as "must not have attained the maximum age on the cut-off date". This is why an SSC notification with an age limit of 18–27 years as on 1 August 2026 states that candidates must be born not before 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008. This calculator works out that same window for you, after adding your category relaxation.

These are the figures used in most central government recruitments. State governments, PSUs and individual posts often differ, and some notifications give further relaxation to departmental candidates, widows, divorced women or candidates from a particular state. How do I calculate my age for a government job form?

Can I calculate my age on a future date?
Yes. The "age as on" field accepts any future date, so you can check whether you will still be within the age limit for next year's recruitment.
Does the calculator include age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates?
Yes. Pick your category and the standard relaxation is added to the upper age limit, and the eligible date-of-birth window is recalculated for you. If the notification gives a different figure, enter it in the "extra relaxation" box.
What does the eligible date-of-birth window mean?
It is the range of birth dates that satisfy the age limit on that cut-off date — the same line notifications print as "candidates must have been born not earlier than … and not later than …". If your date of birth falls inside the range, you meet the age condition.
Is the calculation accurate for leap years and 29 February birthdays?
Yes. Leap years are counted correctly, and a 29 February birthday is treated as 28 February in non-leap years for the age limit — the convention Indian recruitment boards follow.
