How this salary calculator works
Enter your basic pay (or pick your pay level), your city class and your DA rate. The calculator adds dearness allowance, house rent allowance and transport allowance to your basic pay to get your gross salary, then takes off the NPS or UPS contribution and any other deductions you enter. What is left is your estimated monthly in-hand salary.
- Dearness allowance (DA) is a percentage of basic pay. The box starts at 60%, the rate in force from 1 January 2026. When a new rate is approved, type it in the DA box to see your salary at the new rate.
- House rent allowance (HRA) is 30% of basic pay in X class cities, 20% in Y class and 10% in Z class, while DA is above 50%.
- Transport allowance depends on your pay level and city, so enter the amount from your payslip. DA is also paid on transport allowance.
- NPS or UPS contribution is 10% of basic pay plus DA.
Gross salary = Basic pay + DA + HRA + Transport allowance + DA on transport allowance. In-hand salary = Gross salary – NPS or UPS contribution – other deductions.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the 8th Pay Commission salary?
No. This calculator uses the 7th Pay Commission structure that is in force today. The 8th Pay Commission has not been implemented yet, and its recommendations are not final.
Why does my payslip show a different amount?
Payslips include items this calculator cannot know, such as CGHS, GIS, licence fee, income tax and the exact transport allowance for your level and city. Use the “Other deductions” box to include them.
Does this work for state government employees?
It is built for central government pay. State governments often use different DA and HRA rates, so treat the result as a rough guide and change the DA rate to match your state.
