Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Online application and scrutinyITBP checks your form and the sports certificate you uploaded. If they are in order, you get an admit card online with the date and venue.
2. DocumentationYou show your original documents (age, education, caste, sports certificates and any relaxation proof), and your identity is checked with biometrics. After checking, you hand in self-attested copies on the spot. Your sports marks come from the marks table above, and only your one best result counts. The minimum qualifying marks are 10 for every category. Anyone who cannot produce the right certificates is rejected.
3. Physical Standard Test (PST)Officers measure your height, chest (men only) and weight against the standards above. This is a measuring test, not a running test. Women sign a self-declaration about pregnancy before the PST. Being under or overweight does not bar you here; the medical officer decides at the DME.
4. Sports Trial TestA Board of Officers tests you in your own sport for 40 marks. It is qualifying: you need at least 20 marks, but these marks are not counted in the merit list. If you fall short, you are out, and there is no appeal for a re-test. Anyone who has represented India as a squad member in an international event, with ministry clearance, is exempt from the trial.
5. Merit ListThe merit list (a ranking by marks) is made from your sports achievement marks in your advertised sport. Candidates are shortlisted for the medical exam in that order. Ties are broken by: higher marks, then better national-level achievement (where international results are equal), then younger age, then name in alphabetical order.
6. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)A full fitness check done under the MHA guidelines dated 20.05.2015.
7. Review Medical Examination (RME)If you are declared unfit in the DME, you can ask for a second check by signing a written consent within 24 hours. It is usually held the next day, and the Board’s decision is final.

In short, there is no written exam. Your sports marks decide your rank, while the PST and the Sports Trial Test only decide whether you stay in the race.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Upload your sports certificate to your profile before you apply. If it is missing, your application is rejected during scrutiny.
  • Do not apply offline or pay the fee any other way. Offline forms are rejected, other payments are forfeited, and the fee is never refunded.
  • Only results from 01.01.2024 to 01.11.2026 count, and you get marks for just one best medal or level, not a total of several.
  • If you want age, height or chest relaxation, bring the certificate in the exact format the notification gives. A claim without it is not entertained.
  • Give a working email ID and mobile number. ITBP is not responsible if your admit card does not reach you or you forget your login.
  • Check your eligibility before applying, because documents are verified in person later and a change of category is not allowed. Never pay anyone money; the only payment is the application fee.
