ONGC Apprentice Recruitment 2026 – 3047 Posts, Apply Before 20.11.2026

Last updated: November 4, 2026 at 12:45 AM

ONGC is taking in 3,047 apprentices for a year of paid training at its 24 work centres, from Dehradun in the north to Karaikal in the south. The list covers more than 35 trades, so ITI, diploma and degree holders all have seats, and you can apply online until 20.11.2026.

An apprentice is a trainee, not an employee. You get a stipend (a fixed monthly training allowance, not a salary) for 12 months. NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme) and NATS (National Apprenticeship Training Scheme) are the two government portals where you apply, and each trade below is tagged with one of them.

Who Should Apply

  • This is a 12-month training placement, not a regular job. ONGC says it has no duty to offer you employment during or after the apprenticeship, so treat it as paid work experience.
  • Your home district decides which centre you can pick. Hazira, for example, takes only Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Dang and Valsad, and Bokaro takes only Bokaro district. Check the centre table before you choose a trade.
  • You are not eligible if you passed your qualifying exam more than three years before 29.11.2026, or if you have already done an apprenticeship.
  • ONGC pays no travel, boarding or lodging money. If your centre is far from home, work that cost into your decision.
  • The notification describes selection on your marks in the qualifying exam and mentions no written test or interview, so strong marks in your ITI, diploma or degree matter most.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Online applicationYou apply on the NAPS or NATS portal. After the last date, ONGC downloads all applications and sorts them by trade, qualification and work centre.
2. ScrutinyONGC checks your qualification, age, any age relaxation and whether you are eligible under the scheme. Incomplete, duplicate or ineligible applications are dropped.
3. Provisional merit listA merit list (a ranking by marks) is made for each trade and work centre, using the marks in your qualifying exam. If two candidates tie, the older one ranks higher.
4. ShortlistingCandidates are shortlisted for document verification in a ratio ONGC decides. The list goes on the ONGC website or to your email. Being shortlisted does not give you a right to the seat.
5. Document verificationYou bring originals and self-attested copies (listed under Documents Required). A wrong claim or a missing document cancels your candidature.
6. Final merit listONGC prepares the final list for each trade and centre after verification, following the reservation rules and the tie-break rule.
7. Result and joiningResults appear on www.ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in by 15.12.2026. You must be medically fit and finish the joining formalities on the portal. If someone does not report, the next candidate in merit can be called.

In short, there is no written test or interview mentioned. Your marks in the qualifying exam decide your rank, and if two candidates tie, the older one is placed higher.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying for several centres or trades will not get you several seats, because ONGC allots only one centre and one trade as it decides.
  • Check the district list for your work centre first. Applications from outside the eligible districts are not considered.
  • Do not apply if you have done an apprenticeship before, or are doing one now.
  • Use the right portal. Each trade is tagged NAPS or NATS in the tables above, and the two portals are different.
  • Check your email, spam folder and portal account often, because ONGC is not responsible for messages you miss.
  • For the Electrician trade, a Wireman certificate does not count. You need the ITI Electrician trade certificate.
