Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Domicile | You must be a domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (a permanent resident). You need a valid Domicile Certificate in the prescribed format, valid on or before the cut-off date. |
| Cut-off Date | This is the date by which you must already hold every qualification and certificate. The notice ties it to the last date to apply. The extension notice only changes that date, so treat 24.10.2026 as your cut-off and check jkssb.nic.in if you are unsure. |
| Educational Qualification | Matric, 10+2 or a Science degree, plus a diploma or training for most posts. The exact need for each post is in the table below. |
| Age Limit | 18 to 40 years as on 01.01.2026 for Open Merit. Reserved categories get a higher limit, shown in the table below. Check your age eligibility → |
| Application Restriction | Only one application per item number. You can apply for more than one item. Write your name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name exactly as in your Matric certificate. You cannot change them after you submit. |
| Category | Maximum Age | Born Between |
|---|---|---|
| Open Merit (OM) | 40 | 01.01.1986 to 01.01.2008 |
| Scheduled Castes (SC) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| Scheduled Tribes (ST-1) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| Scheduled Tribes (ST-2) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| Residents of Backward Areas (RBA) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| ALC/IB (areas near the Line of Actual Control or International Border) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) | 43 | 01.01.1983 to 01.01.2008 |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 42 | 01.01.1984 to 01.01.2008 |
| Ex-Servicemen (ESM) | Deduct your years of service from your age. The result can be at most 3 years above the limit for the post | Not born after 01.01.2008 |
So if you were born on 01.01.1984, you are too old for Open Merit, because the cut is 01.01.1986. You are still eligible as SC, ST, RBA, ALC/IB, EWS or OBC, where the limit is 43. Your age is counted on 01.01.2026, not on the last date to apply.

Note: For Senior Canning Attendant and Horticulture Technician, your training certificate must come from a government institution, a recognised university, an agricultural or horticultural university, an ICAR institute, or another body authorised by the government to run the course. Candidates with any other qualification are rejected at any stage.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Written (OMR) Exam | Objective, multiple-choice questions, in English only. A wrong answer costs one-fourth of the marks for that question. OMR means you shade bubbles on a sheet that a machine reads. The notice does not give the total marks, the time allowed or the exam date. |
| 2. Admit Card | You download it from jkssb.nic.in about one week before the exam and carry the printout. JKSSB will not send it by post. |
| 3. Document Verification | Only shortlisted candidates are called. You bring original documents, self-attested copies, the printed application form, two recent colour photos and an original photo ID. No travel or daily allowance is paid. |
| 4. Final Selection | Merit in the written exam only. If you applied for several items, the final post is given on your merit and your preferences. The board’s decision is final. |
In short: your marks in the written exam decide your rank. The notice lists no interview or physical test, and the document check only confirms you are eligible. A missing or invalid document on that day can cancel your candidature.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not wait for the last day. The board warns that the website slows down or fails to log in when many people apply together.
- Do not type your name, date of birth or parents’ names from memory. Copy them from your Matric certificate, because a mismatch can cancel your candidature at Document Verification, and no changes are allowed after you submit.
- Choose your item numbers carefully. The board will not change your cadre and department preferences once you fill them.
- Do not upload a blurred photo or signature. The board rejects such applications at once, and the signature must be 10 KB to 20 KB.
- Do not upload a category certificate in the wrong format. Only the prescribed format is accepted, and you cannot upload another one later.
- Do not send more than one form for the same item number. If you apply twice and sit the exam twice for that item, you can be banned from JKSSB exams.
