Who Should Apply

  • This is one year of training under the Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 1973, paid by stipend. It is not a regular government post.
  • The seats are at the Zakura Campus in Srinagar, and four of the seven are in labs such as the Robotics and Embedded Systems Lab and the 5G Use Case Lab.
  • You are chosen on marks, not an exam. Your degree marks carry 75% of the final score, so a strong percentage helps more than anything else.
  • The university prefers people who can handle and operate engineering instruments for their discipline, so mention any lab or instrument work you have done.
  • Skip this one if your degree result is still pending, or if you have already finished an apprenticeship or internship. Both rule you out.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. ShortlistingWhere needed, the university shortlists candidates on the marks in their qualifying degree.
2. InterviewShortlisted candidates are interviewed. The notification gives no date or place yet, so watch the IoT website for it.
3. Final meritDegree marks and the interview are combined in the ratio 75 : 25. Preference goes to candidates who can handle and operate engineering instruments for their discipline.

In short: there is no written exam. Your degree marks count for three-quarters of your final score and the interview for one-quarter.

Stipend and Benefits

ComponentDetail
StipendRs 12,300 per month for a Graduate Apprentice
From NATS (central scheme)Rs 6,150 per month, paid through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer, money sent straight to your bank account)
From University of KashmirRs 6,150 per month
Training periodOne year

In plain terms, the stipend is split evenly between the central NATS scheme and the university. The NATS half goes directly to your bank account, which is why the account has to be linked to your Aadhaar.

How to Apply

  1. Go to nats.education.gov.in. If you are new, click Student Register, fill in the form and note the enrolment number you get. If you already have a NATS login, click Student Login instead.
  2. New registrations are checked by BOAT (NR), the Board of Apprenticeship Training for the Northern Region. You can log in and apply only after that check, so do not wait for the last day.
  3. After logging in, type Srinagar in the district field, then choose the institute named “Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir”.
  4. Fill in every field of the form and click the final submit button. Take a printout of the submitted form.
  5. By 27.10.2026, hand in the printout and photocopies of your documents at the Office of the Dean, School of Engineering, Institute of Technology, Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir.

Note: the notification does not say whether the printout can be sent by post. Check the IoT website or write to iot@uok.edu.in before relying on that.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying on NATS but forgetting to hand in the form copy and documents at the Dean’s office by 27.10.2026. The process has two steps and both count.
  • Letting your Aadhaar name differ from your bank passbook name, or leaving the bank account unlinked to Aadhaar or the mobile number unlinked. The notification asks for all three.
  • Applying while your degree result is still awaited. The university does not accept candidates whose result is not declared by 26.10.2026.
  • Picking the wrong institute on NATS. Type Srinagar as the district and choose “Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir”.
  • Registering on NATS for the first time on the last day. New accounts are verified by BOAT (NR) before you can log in.
