OM is Open Merit, the general category. RBA means Residents of Backward Areas, and ALC/IB means residents of areas next to the Line of Actual Control or the International Border. EWS is the Economically Weaker Section, PwBD means Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, and ESM means Ex-Servicemen.

Ex-Servicemen: the years you served in the Armed Forces are deducted from your actual age. If the result is not more than 3 years above the maximum age for the post, you meet the age condition.

So a general candidate born on 15.06.1984 is too old, because the OM cut-off is 01.01.1986. An OBC candidate born on the same day is within the limit, because the OBC cut-off is 01.01.1983.

Not sure whether you are within the age limit?
Enter your date of birth, the 01.01.2026 age cut-off date and your category to see instantly whether you fall inside the 18 to 40 year band (up to 43 for reserved categories).

Who Should Apply

  • This is a direct recruitment post, which means it is filled by open selection and not by promotion. It sits at Pay Level 6 in the Union Territory cadre of the Public Works (R and B) Department.
  • Both diploma holders and engineering graduates can apply, so you do not need a degree if you hold a 3-year Mechanical diploma.
  • You should not apply if your diploma or degree will only be finished after 15.12.2026, because the notification asks for it on or before that date.
  • Your domicile and category certificates must also be valid on 15.12.2026. Get them issued or renewed before then.
  • Selection is by one written exam only, so your exam marks are what count. Wrong answers lose marks, so guess carefully.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Write your name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name exactly as in your Class 10 certificate, or your candidature can be cancelled at verification.
  • Check every field before you submit. The Board will not change anything once the form is submitted and an application number is generated.
  • Use the prescribed format for your category certificate. A certificate in any other format is rejected, and the Board gives no second chance to upload.
  • Do not wait for the last date. The portal can slow down or fail when many candidates apply together.
  • Send only one application for the same item number. Appearing in the exam more than once on multiple forms can lead to cancellation and a ban.
  • Do not carry mobile phones, smart watches or other electronic devices to the exam. Even switched-off devices are banned.
