A total of 270 training slots have been notified so far across 10 regional establishments covering 31 states and union territories, in five trades — ITI (Electrician), Diploma (Electrical), Diploma (Civil), Graduate (Electrical) and Graduate (Civil). Online registration is open from 25.08.2026 to 10.09.2026, there is no application fee, and there is no written examination or interview — selection is purely merit-based on qualifying marks.

Selection Process

Stage 1 – NATS / NAPS Registration
Candidates must first register as a student/candidate on the NAPS portal (for ITI Electrician) or the NATS portal (for Diploma and Degree in Engineering) and complete their profile to 100% by uploading all required documents. The registration/enrolment number generated here is mandatory for the POWERGRID application. No marks; this is a qualifying prerequisite.
Stage 2 – Online Application
Apply on the POWERGRID careers portal between 25.08.2026 and 10.09.2026, quoting the NATS/NAPS number and DBT-enabled Aadhaar-seeded bank details. Online mode only — no other mode of application is accepted, and there is no application fee.
Stage 3 – Merit-based Shortlisting
There is NO written examination and NO interview. Applications are screened on merit according to the eligibility criteria, prescribed qualification for the trade, and the number of training slots notified for that region/state. Incomplete or ineligible applications are summarily rejected without any intimation.
Stage 4 – Document Verification
Candidates are called for verification of documents/certificates in order of merit, in a ratio of 1:5 against the notified training slots. Shortlisted candidates are informed on their registered email ID. No TA/DA is paid for attending document verification.
Stage 5 – Final Merit List
A merit list is prepared from the candidates who reported for document verification and were found suitable as per the eligibility criteria. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD is applied at this stage.
Stage 6 – Engagement
Candidates are engaged in merit order on accepting the tri-partite apprenticeship contract on the NATS website, and on submission of a medical certificate in the prescribed format plus police verification. Training then runs for one year from the date of joining.

Note down the NAPS/NATS registration or enrolment number generated after registration — it is mandatory for the POWERGRID application form.
