Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Educational Qualification | A bachelor’s degree from any recognised university or institution, for both posts |
| Experience: Senior Assistant | 3 years as Assistant or an equal post at Level 4 (a grade on the central government pay chart). The work must be in a Central or State government body, university, PSU (a government-owned company) or autonomous body. A similar pay package in a reputed private company or corporate bank with yearly turnover of Rs 200 crore or more also counts. |
| Experience: Assistant | 2 years as Junior Assistant or an equal post in a university, research establishment, Central or State government body, PSU or autonomous body. A similar pay package in a reputed private company or corporate bank with yearly turnover of Rs 200 crore or more also counts. |
| Typing speed (Assistant) | English 35 words per minute or Hindi 30 words per minute |
| Computer skills | Senior Assistant: computer applications, noting and drafting. Assistant: computer operations. |
| Age Limit | Senior Assistant: maximum 35 years. Assistant: maximum 32 years. Both are counted on the closing date of the advertisement. Check your age eligibility → |
| When eligibility is checked | Qualification and experience must be complete on the closing date of the application. |
| Already in a government or PSU job | You must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC, a letter from your employer allowing you to apply) at document verification or when asked. No NOC by the due date means your candidature is cancelled. |
Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, OBC (Central List), PwBD, Ex-servicemen and other specified categories | Upper age limit is relaxed as per Central Government orders. The notice does not give the number of years. |
| 3 or more years of regular service in the same or an allied field (Government departments, statutory or autonomous bodies, universities, DU colleges, PSUs) | Up to 5 years, or the number of completed years of service if that is less. Regular service means a regular cadre post, not contract or daily wage work. |
| Departmental candidates of DU or its colleges | The upper age limit for direct recruits is not insisted upon |
| Contract, daily-wage or ad hoc staff of DU or its colleges with at least 1 year of service | One-time exemption from the upper age limit. It covers only staff hired directly by DU or its colleges, not project-based or outsourced staff. |
| SC, ST, OBC or PwBD candidates who apply as General | No age relaxation and no cut-off relaxation |
So 35 and 32 are the base limits. The notice does not say how many extra years your category gets, so check that against the central government rules before you pay the fee. If you apply as General instead of your own category, you lose the relaxation.
Who Should Apply
- Check the experience rule first. Senior Assistant needs 3 years and Assistant needs 2 years of work in a government body, university, PSU, or a large private company or bank, so a fresh graduate does not meet it.
- If you applied for Advt. No. R&P/311/2024 (dated 12.12.2024), you pay no fee this time. The notice exempts those applicants.
- If you already work on contract, ad hoc or temporary basis at DU or its colleges, you get 1 extra mark for each year of service (up to 10) and a one-time age exemption, if you meet the notice conditions.
- Expect written work, not an interview. The Main exam is descriptive (you write your own answers), and the scheme lists no interview.
- If you want the Assistant post, you must type 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi, because the Skill Test checks it.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1: Preliminary Test | 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQ), 2 marks each, 200 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes. Each wrong answer costs 0.5 marks. It only shortlists candidates, and its marks do not count in the final result. |
| Preliminary Test subjects | General Knowledge (called General Studies for Assistant) 20 questions, Reasoning 20, General Mathematical Ability 20, Administration of Higher Educational Institutions 40. |
| Who moves ahead | The cut-off (minimum score) is 50% of the average marks of the top 5% of candidates who appeared. SC and ST get a 5% relaxation in it, and PwBD get 10%. |
| How many go to Main | 30 applications for one post and 15 more for each extra post, so 45 for two posts and 60 for three. Candidates tied at the cut-off also go ahead. |
| Stage 2: Main Exam | Descriptive, 200 marks, 2 hours. Topics are the higher education system in India and its regulators, budget and financial administration, ICT (technology) in universities, and rules such as Fundamental Rules, Supplementary Rules, General Financial Rules, procurement through GeM (the government online buying portal), pension and grievance handling. The merit list is drawn from this exam. |
| Skill Test | 100 marks and qualifying only, so you need 50 marks to pass. Senior Assistant: university administrative units, Manual of Office Procedures, information technology, noting and drafting. Assistant: Manual of Office Procedures, noting and drafting, computer operations, and typing at 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi. Only candidates who sit the Main exam can take it. |
| Language and extra time | Papers are in English and Hindi. Pick one language and use it throughout. Visually impaired, cerebral palsy and similarly placed PwBD candidates get 20 extra minutes per hour. |
| Final merit | Drawn only from shortlisted candidates who appeared in both the Main exam and the Skill Test. |
| Extra marks for DU contract staff | Staff on contract, ad hoc or temporary basis at DU or its colleges (as on 25.03.2021) get 1 mark for each year of service, up to 10 marks, in the Preliminary Test and again in the final merit. |
In short, the Preliminary Test only decides who goes ahead, and its marks are dropped after that. Your rank comes from the descriptive Main exam alone, and the Skill Test is pass or fail, with 50 out of 100 needed.
Salary and Benefits
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pay Scale | Senior Assistant: Pay Level 6. Assistant: Pay Level 4. Both as per the 7th Pay Commission. |
| Allowances | As admissible. The notice does not list them. |
The notice names only the pay level, not a rupee figure. On the 7th Pay Commission chart (the central government pay chart), Level 4 starts at Rs 25,500 a month and Level 6 at Rs 35,400, before allowances.
How to Apply
- From 23.10.2026, open www.du.ac.in, click “Work with DU” and then “Advertisement – Departments”.
- Read the notice for Advt. No. R&P/323/2026 and check that you meet the qualification, experience and age limit on the closing date.
- Open the online application link when it goes live and fill in every field. An incomplete form is rejected.

- Submit the form and keep a copy. DU sends every letter only to the email address you give in the form.
Note: if you face a technical problem, write to non_teaching_rec@admin.du.ac.in. DU also advises applying early to avoid the last-minute rush.
Documents Required
| Document | Format / Notes |
|---|---|
| Caste certificate (SC / ST / OBC-NCL) | In the prescribed format from the competent authority. An OBC-NCL certificate (Non-Creamy Layer, which shows your family income is under the limit) must be issued on or after 01.04.2026 and be digitally verifiable. |
| EWS certificate | Income and assets certificate in the prescribed format, issued by the last date to apply but not before 01.04.2026 |
| Disability certificate (PwBD) | Disability must be at least 40%. Upload a valid certificate with the application. |
| Experience proof | Certificates showing the experience asked for the post you apply for |
| Proof for age relaxation | Submit it again at the written exam, skill test or document verification, even if you uploaded it earlier |
| No Objection Certificate (NOC) | Only if you work in a government body or PSU. Give it at document verification or when asked. |
| Degree, age proof, photograph and signature | Not itemised in the notice. Photo and signature rules are not announced yet, so check the form when it opens. |
The last row is general guidance, not from the notice, because the notice only says applicants must produce specific certificates as per the eligibility conditions.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Sending an incomplete form or no fee. DU rejects such applications, and the fee is not refunded.
- Using an old OBC-NCL certificate. It must be issued on or after 01.04.2026, and your sub-caste must match the Central List, or you are treated as General.
- Applying under EWS without a valid certificate. It must be issued by the last date and not before 01.04.2026, or you are treated as General.
- Choosing General when you belong to a reserved category. You then lose both the age relaxation and the cut-off relaxation.
- Forgetting the NOC if you work in a government body or PSU. No NOC by the due date cancels your candidature.
- Using an email address you do not check. DU sends every letter, including any call letter, only to the email in your form.
