Ex-Servicemen are people who have served in the armed forces. Home Guard members are the volunteer force attached to the police. Their posts are carved out of the same 1000 and cut across the category columns.

The notification shows 13% of the posts (130 in all) in a separate block. It marks them as notional for UR and provisional for OBC, and does not explain further. They are part of the 1000, not extra posts. The numbers can also go up or down later. The notification says the final count may change.

Candidates are asked to choose between the SAF and the District Force, and to list their preferred units (58 units, including three railway police units) while applying. Home district is not given to selected candidates.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Written exam (CBT)A computer-based test in Hindi with 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, in 2 hours. You get +1 for each right answer and nothing is cut for wrong answers. Marks: 40 for General Knowledge and Reasoning, 30 for Mental Ability and Aptitude, 30 for Science and Simple Arithmetic. Questions are at Class 8 level of the MP Board.
2. Percentile scoreThe exam runs in two shifts, so your marks are turned into a percentile. A percentile is the share of candidates in your shift who scored the same or less than you. This keeps a harder or easier shift from helping or hurting anyone (the notification calls it Normalised Equi-Percentile scaling).
3. ShortlistFor each category, candidates equal to 7 times the posts are called for the next stage, based on a cut-off percentile (the lowest percentile that gets you in). Everyone tied at the cut-off is also called. One cut-off covers SAF and District Force together. The cut-off is fixed only after the exam, so nobody can know it earlier. Ex-Servicemen and Home Guard members do not get a separate cut-off.
4. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)A single 800 metre run, with one chance only, for up to 40 marks. You must score at least 8 marks out of 40 in the run. Home Guard and Ex-Servicemen have a more relaxed time table. The date set by the selection committee will not be changed. The full time-to-marks table is on pages 15 and 16 of the rulebook.
5. Height and chest measurementYour height and chest are measured against the standards in the table above. The standards are fixed for every category.
6. Trade (driving) testA practical driving test. It is qualifying only, so you either pass or fail, and no marks are added.
7. Document verificationHeld after the physical test, at the centres set by the police selection committees. You show originals and self-attested photocopies. If a certificate fails the check, you are out, even if you did well in the exam and the run.
8. Medical test and character checkThe District Medical Board checks height, chest, eyesight (at least 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other, without glasses), colour vision, and that you have no knock-knee or flat feet. If you are declared unfit, you can ask for a review by the Divisional Medical Board. A police character check follows.
9. Final selectionThe rulebook says final selection rests on your written-exam percentile, once you clear the physical and trade tests. If two candidates have the same percentile, the one with higher marks goes first, and then the older candidate. A waiting list of 15% of the posts is kept for one year or until the next result.
Extra marksSome groups get 5% extra marks in the written exam. These include Ex-Servicemen, NCC ‘C’ certificate holders, and the families of soldiers killed in the recent India-Pakistan conflict (the full list is on page 5 of the rulebook).

In short: your written-exam percentile decides your rank. The 800 metre run, the driving test, the document check and the medical test are hurdles you must clear. The notification does not make clear whether run marks are added to your rank, so read pages 8 and 13 of the rulebook.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Apply only once. If the board finds more than one application from you, all of them can be cancelled.
  • Check every detail before you submit. You can correct the form only until 03.11.2026, and after the admit card is issued nothing can be changed.
  • Do not apply unless you meet every condition by 29.10.2026, including the heavy vehicle licence. The board checks your certificates only later, and a wrong claim removes you from the list.
  • If you live outside Madhya Pradesh, apply only for Open posts. You get no reservation or age relaxation, and your age limit is 33.
  • Carry an original photo ID and an unlocked Aadhaar to the exam. The rulebook says two different things about e-Aadhaar (a downloaded Aadhaar), so do not depend on it.
  • Keep your application number safe. You need it to download the admit card and to log in later.
