What the 87 and 13 percent split means. The 13 percent portion — 85 posts here — is the part of the Madhya Pradesh OBC reservation that is still before the courts. In the rule book those 85 posts appear twice in the same row: once as kalpanik (notional, counted as unreserved for now) and once as pravidhik (provisional, counted as OBC if the court allows it). They are the same 85 posts, so they are not counted twice in the 655 total.
Reservation percentages applied to the vertical categories are UR 27, OBC 27, SC 16, ST 20 and EWS 10. Within each vertical category there is horizontal reservation of 35 percent for women and 10 percent for ex-servicemen. Persons with disabilities are exempt from this recruitment under Home (Police) Department memo F 2(A) 541/92-B-4-Two dated 04.04.1995. The rule book also states plainly that the number of advertised posts can be decreased or increased by Police Headquarters before final selection, and that no fresh applications will be invited and no changes to submitted applications will be allowed if that happens.
Higher Secondary (old system) or Higher Secondary School Certificate (10+2) pass; Hindi Shorthand at 100 words per minute from a Madhya Pradesh recognised parishad, board, polytechnic or ITI, or an equivalent recognised institution; and a CPCT (Computer Proficiency Certification Test) certificate including Hindi typing, which the rule book states is mandatory. The rule book also lists alternative computer qualifications — a DOEACC diploma-level pass, a one-year COPA certificate from a government recognised ITI, a Modern Office Management course from a recognised polytechnic, institute, college, university or ITI, or a computer diploma from a UGC recognised or open university. Educational Qualification — Assistant Sub Inspector
Higher Secondary (10+2) 12th pass from a recognised board or institute; and a CPCT certificate including Hindi typing, stated as mandatory. The alternatives listed are an engineering degree, MCA, BCA or MSc in Computer Science or Information Technology, an AICTE approved polytechnic diploma, a DOEACC diploma-level pass, a one-year COPA certificate from a government ITI, a Modern Office Management course, or a computer diploma from a UGC recognised institution. Qualification cut-off date
You must already hold the minimum qualification on the date you submit the application. A qualification earned after the prescribed date does not make you eligible.
Age Limit
Maximum 33 to 43 years as on 08.10.2026, varying by category and gender — see the table below. The rule book states that the candidate must have completed the prescribed minimum age on 08.10.2026 but does not print a minimum age figure; the exact wording is on page 10 of the rule book. Domicile
All reservation and all age relaxation apply only to Madhya Pradesh domicile holders. Candidates from other states may apply only under the Unreserved Open category, receive no reservation and no age relaxation, and must not be more than 33 years old on 08.10.2026. A Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate is mandatory for any reservation claim.

Children restriction
A candidate with more than two living children, one of whom was born on or after 26.01.2001, is not eligible for appointment. If one child is living and a later delivery produces two or more children, that is not a disqualification.
Application restriction
Only ONE application form for all posts. A preference order across the six post codes is mandatory — a post code you do not mark will not be considered for you even if you score a higher percentile. Filing more than one form and sitting the exam on it cancels your candidature.
Serving government employees
Need prior written permission from their appointing authority to sit the exam. On selection they must submit an accepted resignation; Madhya Pradesh Police staff must submit a release order. Anyone dismissed or removed from service on disciplinary grounds is not eligible.
Physical standards
Height 162 cm for men and 152 cm for women, for both posts. Chest measurement is not applicable. No relaxation is given in physical standards at any level.

Computer based test, objective multiple choice, in Hindi. 2 hours, 100 questions, 100 marks. Plus 1 mark for each correct answer and no negative marking — nothing is deducted for a wrong or unattempted answer. Marks split: General Knowledge and Reasoning 40 marks, Intellectual Capacity and Mental Aptitude 30 marks, Science and Simple Arithmetic 30 marks. Shortlisting for Phase 2
Seven times the advertised posts of each vertical category are called for the practical exam, on a percentile cut-off. Every candidate scoring exactly the cut-off percentile is called even if the total then exceeds seven times. No separate cut-off percentile is fixed for horizontal categories (women, ex-servicemen). The cut-off is dynamic and cannot be known before the exam.
Phase 2 — Document Verification
Held at the exam centre in Bhopal, under a selection committee constituted by the Director General of Police. All original certificates are checked along with self-attested photocopies; unattested copies are not accepted. A candidate found ineligible here is not selected even if the practical exam was cleared. The Phase 2 date, once notified, will not be changed.
Phase 2 Practical — Subedar (Stenographer)
Schedule-1. Duration 1 hour, 100 marks, minimum qualifying 30 marks (30 percent). Two Hindi shorthand dictations of 5 minutes each at 100 words per minute; 5 minutes after each dictation to read and correct the draft; 20 minutes to type the transcript of each dictation. Each dictation carries 10 marks for the shorthand plus 40 marks for the typed transcript. A 5-minute session is given before the exam to get familiar with the computer.
Phase 2 Practical — Assistant Sub Inspector
Schedule-2. Duration 1 hour, 100 marks, minimum qualifying 30 marks (30 percent). Two Hindi paragraphs of 600 words each, 30 minutes per paragraph, 50 marks per paragraph. Two one-minute sessions are given before the exam to get familiar with the computer. A word misprinted in the question paper typed exactly as printed is not counted as an error.
How typing errors are counted
Full errors: omitting a word or number, adding an extra word or number, changing a word or number, swapping a correct word with one not in the passage, typing a word not in the passage, and a grammatical error. Half errors: spacing mistakes, and specified spelling slips. Error percentage = (full errors + half errors divided by 2) divided by total words in the passage, times 100. Only typed matter is evaluated — pen or pencil corrections earn no marks.
Physical Measurement
Height only — 162 cm for men and 152 cm for women, for both posts. Chest measurement is not applicable. No relaxation at any level.
Medical Examination
By the District Medical Board — height, vision (no eye disease or defect; uncorrected visual acuity not below 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other without glasses, plus an Ishihara colour vision test), no knock-knee and no flat foot, and no bodily deformity. A candidate declared unfit may apply for re-examination by the Divisional Medical Board; where the district and divisional boards differ, the State Medical Board decides. A gazetted police officer is present at every stage and the medical exam is videographed.
Final Merit List
Total of the Phase 1 written marks and the Phase 2 practical marks. Only candidates who obtained the minimum practical marks are considered for appointment. Where two candidates have the same percentile, the older candidate ranks higher. Post and unit allotment is done by Police Headquarters according to merit rank, your stated preference and the home district you declared.
Character verification
Done under Home Department, Madhya Pradesh order F-17-01/2017/Two/C-2 dated 24.07.2018. Hiding or misstating any fact in the character verification form makes you ineligible for service, and can lead to removal even after appointment, without further notice.
After selection
Three years probation plus compulsory departmental training, which must be passed — one re-attempt is allowed and no exemption from training is given. All posts are Class III. You must complete at least 5 years in the allotted unit before becoming eligible for transfer. No posting in your home district, except at Police Headquarters.
How the score is normalised. Because the exam runs in more than one shift, MPESB converts raw marks using the Normalised Equi-Percentile (NEP) scaling technique under board order 11-80/2013/08/P-2/625/2025 dated 24.01.2025. Qualifying marks for every category are based on the proportionate score obtained. There is no provision for recounting or re-evaluation after the result is published. An objection to a question in the paper can be raised online within three days of the objection link going live, for a fee of Rs. 150 per question plus charges; objections sent on paper are not considered.

Go to the MPESB MPOnline portal and complete profile registration. EKYC is mandatory, and your Aadhaar number or Aadhaar VID must be entered in the application — it is used for biometric verification at the exam centre.
Fill one single application form for both designations and record your preference order across all six post codes. Do not leave out any post code you are eligible for. Enter your permanent body identification mark and the number of the photo ID you will carry to the exam — without these the form is not accepted.
Scan and upload your colour photograph, your signature below it, and a two-line handwritten declaration in your own hand. Also upload your date-of-birth mark sheet, caste or EWS certificate and any bonus certificate.
Pay the exam fee plus the MPOnline portal charge by credit card, debit card or net banking. If you have none of these, generate the Unpaid Application link and pay in cash at an authorised MPOnline kiosk.
Print the computerised receipt and keep your application number safe — it is the only way to download your admit card, and MPESB does not send admit cards by post.
Note: Offline or postal applications and offline fee payment are not accepted. You may correct your form any number of times up to 13.10.2026, but each correction costs Rs. 20 plus a Rs. 40 portal charge, and the application number, transaction ID, board application number, mobile number and email ID can never be changed. Four exam city preferences must be given while applying; the board allots centres randomly based on seat availability and no request for a centre change is entertained. The written exam will be held at Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Neemuch, Ratlam, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, Ujjain, Barwani or Anuppur.

Signature

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Submitting more than one application form. Filing duplicate forms and sitting the exam on them cancels your candidature — one form covers all six post codes.
Leaving a post code out of your preference order. MPESB will not consider you for a post you did not mark, no matter how high your percentile is.
Applying from outside Madhya Pradesh expecting reservation or age relaxation. Non-domicile candidates can apply only under Unreserved Open, and their maximum age is 33 years on 08.10.2026.
Uploading a photograph that breaks the specification. More than three months old, coloured background, a Polaroid, or missing your name and the date — any of these gets the whole application rejected, and MPESB will not write to you about it.
Carrying an e-Aadhaar to the exam centre. An e-Aadhaar is explicitly not accepted; without a valid original photo ID you will not be allowed to sit the exam.
Assuming the height standard can be relaxed. The rule book states that no relaxation is given in physical standards at any level, for any category.
Reaching the centre after the reporting time. Entry closes at the end of the reporting window — 09:00 AM for shift 1 and 02:00 PM for shift 2 — and late candidates are not admitted.
