Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Educational Qualification | B.Sc with Chemistry, or B.Pharm, from a recognised university |
| Work Experience | At least 1 year of work experience in testing and analysis of drugs — compulsory for both B.Sc and B.Pharm candidates |
| Age Limit | Minimum 21 years as on 01.08.2026. Your date of birth is taken from your Matriculation (Class 10) certificate. Check your age eligibility → |
| Nationality | Indian citizen |
| Reservation | Only for permanent residents (domicile) of Bihar. Candidates from other states can apply, but only as General (Unreserved). |
| Category | Maximum Age |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (men) | 37 years |
| Unreserved (women) | 40 years |
| BC / EBC (men and women) | 40 years |
| SC / ST (men and women) | 42 years |
| Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) | 10 extra years |
| Regular Bihar government employees with 3 years of continuous service | 5 extra years |
| Contract Scientific Assistants (or equal post) in Bihar government or public laboratories | Extra years equal to your contract service, counted up to 01.08.2026 |
| Ex-Servicemen | 3 years plus your years of defence service, but your actual age must not be above 57 on the day you apply |
In short: the extra relaxations in the last four rows do not stack — you can use only one of them on top of your category limit. So a 45-year-old BC candidate with 6 years of contract lab work in Bihar still qualifies, but a disability relaxation and a contract-service relaxation cannot be added together.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Computer-Based Test (CBT) | An online exam you take on a computer at a test centre. 100 multiple-choice questions in Hindi and English, 2 hours, 400 marks. 4 marks for each right answer and 1 mark cut for each wrong one. The syllabus will be put up separately on the BTSC website. |
| Normalisation | If the exam runs in more than one shift, scores are adjusted (normalised) so that candidates who got an easier or harder shift are compared fairly. |
| Converting to 75 marks | Your percentage in the CBT is multiplied by 0.75. For example, 50% in the exam becomes 37.5 marks out of 75. |
| Minimum qualifying marks | General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC/ST, women and PwBD 32%. Candidates from outside Bihar need 40% whatever their category. |
| 2. Work experience marks (up to 25) | 5 marks for each year of satisfactory contract service on an equal post in a Bihar government or public laboratory (central government, Bihar government, municipal bodies, panchayati raj bodies, military labs and similar). Part of a year counts pro-rata. Given only if you pass the CBT, and only with a certificate in the Appendix-I format. |
| 3. Document Verification | Qualified candidates are placed in a category-wise merit list out of 100 and called to show original certificates. |
In plain terms: the written exam decides most of your rank, and the experience marks only help people who have already worked on contract in a Bihar government lab. The one year of drug-testing experience needed to apply is a separate thing — it makes you eligible but does not earn marks by itself.
Salary and Benefits
The notification places the post in Pay Level 5. A Pay Level is a fixed grade on the government pay chart; Level 5 starts at a basic pay of Rs 29,200 a month and goes up to Rs 92,300 over the years. Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other benefits are added as per Bihar government rules — the notification itself does not list them.
How to Apply
- Open the BTSC online application portal and register with your own mobile number and email ID (keep both working until the final result).
- Log in and fill in the form for Advertisement No. 30/2026 — name, date of birth, category, qualification and experience — exactly as written on your certificates.
- Mark your reserved category, disability, freedom-fighter status or contract experience in the right boxes. Anything not claimed in the form cannot be claimed later.
- Upload a recent photograph, your signature and clear scanned copies of every certificate you have mentioned.
- Pay the Rs 100 fee online, submit the form, then download and keep a copy of the form and the payment receipt.
Note: printed, typed or handwritten applications are not accepted, and no correction is allowed after you submit.
Documents Required
| Document | Format / Notes |
|---|---|
| Photograph | Taken within the last 3 months, full face from head to chin, eyes open, white background, no shadow, no spectacles. Keep 5 extra prints of the same photo. Resize your photo and signature → |
| Matriculation certificate | For your date of birth |
| B.Sc (Chemistry) or B.Pharm | Mark sheets and original or provisional degree certificate |
| Drug testing experience certificate | Proof of at least 1 year in testing and analysis of drugs — compulsory for everyone |
| Caste / NCL / EWS certificate | SC/ST: caste certificate. BC/EBC: Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate — proof your family income is under the limit; a caste certificate alone is not enough. EWS: income and asset certificate, valid for 1 year from issue. Women must have these in their father’s name and address. |
| Domicile (permanent residence) certificate | Needed for any reservation |
| Freedom fighter grandchild certificate | In the prescribed format, signed by the District Magistrate (or an officer he authorises) of your home district |
| Disability certificate | From a medical board, in the format of Appendix-1 of resolution 962 (Form VI for multiple disabilities) |
| Contract experience certificate | Only if you claim experience marks or age relaxation — must be in the Appendix-I format, issued by the controlling officer of the lab |
All certificates must be issued on or before 24.10.2026, and only the documents you mention and upload in the online form will be checked at document verification.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying without the 1-year drug testing experience — a B.Sc or B.Pharm degree alone does not make you eligible.
- BC and EBC candidates uploading only a caste certificate; without a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate the reservation is refused.
- Forgetting to tick your category, disability or freedom-fighter box in the form — the benefit is lost, and the category cannot be changed after registration.
- Uploading a blurred or dark scan; BTSC can cancel your candidature for unreadable documents even at document verification.
- Getting a contract experience certificate in any format other than Appendix-I — no marks or age relaxation will be given for it.
- Leaving the form for the last day; BTSC is not responsible for internet or payment failures.
