| Nationality | Indian citizen |
| Reservation Benefit | Only for permanent residents (domicile) of Bihar. Candidates from other states can apply, but only as Unreserved |
Maximum Age by Category
| Category | Maximum Age (as on 01.08.2026) |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (Men) | 37 years |
| Unreserved (Women) | 40 years |
| BC / EBC (Men and Women) | 40 years |
| SC / ST (Men and Women) | 42 years |
Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) | 10 years |

| Ex-Servicemen | 3 years plus the period served in the armed forces, provided actual age is not above 57 years on the application date |
You can use only one of these three relaxations, not two together. So a 45-year-old SC candidate with a disability is still eligible: 42 years plus 10 years of PwBD relaxation takes the limit to 52.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT) | 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, 2 hours, in Hindi and English. Questions follow the Food Safety Officer syllabus set by the Health Department, which BTSC will publish separately on its website. Each right answer gets 1 mark and each wrong answer loses 0.25 mark. If the exam runs in more than one shift, scores are normalised (adjusted so that an easier or harder shift does not give anyone an unfair edge). |
| Minimum Qualifying Marks | General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC / ST, women and PwBD 32%. Candidates from outside Bihar (including women and PwBD) need 40% |
| Stage 2: Document Verification | Shortlisted candidates must bring original certificates. Only documents you mentioned and uploaded in the online form are accepted. Missing this date means no second chance |
| Final Merit | Prepared on CBT marks alone |
| Training | Selected candidates are appointed only after completing training arranged by FSSAI with the state government |
In short: there is no interview. Your CBT score decides your rank, and document verification only checks that you are eligible.
Salary and Benefits

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- If you are BC or EBC, a caste certificate alone is not enough. Without a Non-Creamy Layer certificate you lose the reservation.
- Do not upload a blurry, dark or unreadable scan. BTSC can cancel your candidature for it, even at document verification.
- Any certificate you forget to mention and upload in the form will not be accepted later, even if you bring the original.
- Use your own working mobile number and email, because the commission may contact you through them until the final list comes out.
- Do not wait for the last day. BTSC is not responsible if the internet or a payment fails at the last minute.
