Eligibility Criteria

CriterionDetail
Educational QualificationBachelor of Library and Information Science, or an equivalent degree, from a university the Government recognises. A law degree is preferred but is not compulsory.
ExperienceTwo years of work in a well organized library, earned after you finish the degree.
Computer KnowledgeA certificate showing basic computer knowledge, in the form the Gujarat Government prescribes from time to time.
LanguageSufficient knowledge of English, Gujarati and Hindi.
Age Limit21 to 37 years as on 20.10.2026
Check your age eligibility →
NationalityYou must be a citizen of India.
ReservationOnly candidates of Gujarat origin can claim reserved-category benefits. Since no post is reserved this time, SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates apply against the General category and get the lower fee alone.

Age Relaxation

CategoryRelaxation
Unreserved / SC / ST / SEBC / EWSNo relaxation
Women candidates5 years
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)10 years
Ex-ServicemenLength of service actually rendered, plus 3 years
State Government employees5 years, or the number of years already served, whichever is less

The one rule that overrides all of these: your upper age can never go past 45 years, whichever relaxation you claim. So a woman candidate can apply up to 42, and a PwBD candidate hits the 45-year ceiling rather than the full 10 years.

Not sure whether you are within the age limit?
Enter your date of birth, the 20.10.2026 cut-off date and your category relaxation to see instantly whether you fall inside the 21 to 37 year band — and whether the 45-year ceiling applies to you.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Main Written Examination (Objective Type MCQs)100 marks, 2 hours, tentatively on 29.11.2026 at Ahmedabad or other centres the High Court decides. Each question carries 1 mark, and 0.33 mark is cut for every wrong or multiple answer. The syllabus covers Library Science; English and Gujarati language; General Studies (history, geography, science, current affairs) with logical reasoning and analytical ability; basic legal knowledge; and basic computer application. The paper is in English, except the Gujarati questions. You need 50% to pass, or 45% if you are PwBD. Answers go on an OMR sheet, and the High Court will not re-check or re-evaluate it.
2. Viva-voce Test (Oral Interview)40 marks, tentatively in December 2026 or January 2027. Only candidates who pass the written exam are called. You need at least 40% here to be included in the final merit list. If too many candidates pass the written exam, the High Court may cut the interview list down by merit.
3. Select List and Wait ListYour rank comes from your written exam marks and interview marks added together. A centralised wait list of up to 10% of the notified vacancies is published alongside. Both lists stay valid for one year from the date they are published, or until the posts are filled, whichever comes first.

Both stages count towards your final rank, but the written paper carries far more weight than the interview — a little over 70% of the total. And with 0.33 marks lost on every wrong answer, a blind guess costs you more than leaving the question blank.

Salary and Benefits

ComponentDetail
Pay MatrixRs 25,500 to 81,100 a month. The Pay Matrix is the government’s pay ladder — 25,500 is where a new appointee starts and 81,100 is the top of that band after years of increments.
Starting Basic PayRs 25,500 a month
AllowancesUsual allowances as per the rules. The notification does not list them individually.
Post TypeGroup-C, a regular government post on the establishment of the District Judiciary or the Industrial and Labour Courts

In plain terms, Rs 25,500 is your starting basic pay, not your in-hand salary. Allowances are paid on top of it, so the actual monthly figure is higher — the notification simply does not break them down.

How to Apply

  1. Open the HC-OJAS portal at hc-ojas.gujarat.gov.in any time between 12:00 hours on 01.10.2026 and 23:59 hours on 20.10.2026. Read the “How to Apply – User Manual” on the portal before you start filling anything in.
  2. Fill in the online application form. For the District Judiciary posts you must choose three districts in order of preference — the High Court picks a fourth for you based on where vacancies are left. The Industrial and Labour Courts post takes no district preference at all.
  3. Upload your photograph and signature in the size and format the form asks for.
  4. Pay the fee through the “Print Application / Pay Fees” button using SBI e-Pay, and save the payment receipt.
  5. Confirm and submit the application, then print the confirmed form along with the e-Payment receipt and keep both safe.

Note: Your district preference cannot be changed later at any stage — the High Court rejects such requests outright. Only applications that are confirmed and paid for are allowed into the written exam.

Photograph or signature rejected by the upload form?
The HC-OJAS form will not accept a file that is the wrong pixel size or too many KB. Resize your photo and signature to the exact size the form asks for, in your browser, without installing anything.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Your three district preferences are locked the moment you submit — the High Court rejects any request to change them outright, so think about where you are willing to be posted before you pick.
  • Your two years of library experience must come after your degree, so a certificate covering time while you were still studying will not count.
  • Answers go on an OMR sheet and there is no re-checking or re-evaluation, so check your markings before you hand the sheet in.
  • Carrying any electronic gadget into the exam or interview makes you ineligible for appointment altogether, not just for that paper.
  • Do not phone or visit the High Court Registry for updates — they will not be entertained. Watch the HC-OJAS portal and the SMS alerts on your registered mobile number instead.
  • A wrong answer costs you 0.33 mark, so skipping a question you genuinely do not know usually beats guessing.
