There is no form to post and no exam to clear here — CSIR-NGRI in Hyderabad wants you to walk in with your certificates and sit the interview. Ten project posts are open across five research projects, running from a B.Sc-level Project Assistant job to a Project JRF working on a landslide and flood early-warning system in the Uttarakhand Himalaya. Interviews are spread over three mornings, 05, 07 and 09 October 2026, and the morning you attend depends on your post code; if you cannot reach Hyderabad, an online interview is possible, but that route closes on 30.09.2026.

Post Code E appears twice above because the notification groups two separate requirements under one code: one post for general geophysical field work, and two posts for ERT, short for Electrical Resistivity Tomography, a survey method that maps what lies underground by passing a current through the ground. Post Code F likewise covers two levels, PAT-I and PAT-II, against a single count of 2.
Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Educational Qualification | Varies by post code, from a B.Sc for Post Code A up to an M.Sc or M.Tech for Post Codes D, E and F. The post-wise table below has the exact subjects. |
| Age Limit | Maximum 35 years for Project Assistant-II, Project Associate-I and Project Associate-II. Maximum 28 years for Project JRF. Both are counted as on the date of your interview, not a separate cut-off date. Check your age eligibility → |
| Experience | Only Post Code F at the PAT-II level needs experience: 2 years of research experience in field sample collection and sample preparation. Every other post is open to freshers. |
| Application Restriction | If you are in your final semester or final year and still waiting for your result, you are not eligible to attend the interview. |
| Nature of the job | These are project posts, co-terminus with the project (meaning the job ends when the project ends). The notification states clearly that this is not a regular appointment and gives you no claim on any CSIR or NGRI post. |
Qualification by Post Code
| Post Code | Essential Qualification | Desirable / Job Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| A | B.Sc with Computer Science, or B.Sc with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Computer knowledge in MS Office and Excel, and office assistant work. The job is secretarial support for Skill Initiative training programmes. |
| B | B.Tech in Computer Science and allied fields | Work on AI and ML (artificial intelligence and machine learning) tasks |
| C | B.Tech in Computer Science, or Master of Computer Applications (MCA), or M.Sc in Earth Science | Not specified in notification |
| D | M.Sc, M.Sc (Tech), M.Tech, M.S. or Integrated M.Tech in Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Marine Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Geophysical Technology, Geosciences or Earth Sciences | Seismic data analysis, coding and research |
| E (1 post) | Same subject list as Post Code D | Geophysical field work, data processing and CCUs-related work |
| E — ERT (2 posts) | Same subject list as Post Code D, or an equivalent degree | Experience in geophysical or mineral exploration, remote sensing and GIS applied to mineral exploration. The job covers field work, data acquisition, data processing and map analysis. |
| F (PAT-I) | M.Sc, M.Sc (Tech), M.Tech, M.S. or Integrated M.Tech in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Sciences, Geochemistry, Applied Geochemistry or equivalent | Knowledge of field sample collection and sample preparation in a geochemistry lab |
| F (PAT-II) | The same degrees as F (PAT-I), plus 2 years of research experience in field sample collection and sample preparation | Geological field work, sample preparation, geochemical and isotopic data acquisition |
Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation in Upper Age |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability) | 5 years |
| Women | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| General / UR | No relaxation |
So a woman applying for a Project Associate post is eligible up to 40, and an OBC candidate up to 38. The one to watch is Project JRF: its base limit is 28, not 35, so even with the full 5-year relaxation you have to be under 33.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Walk-in interview (in person) | Reach CSIR-NGRI, Uppal Road, Hyderabad between 08:30 AM and 10:00 AM on your post code’s date. Carry the filled application form, all original certificates and one set of self-attested photocopies. The board checks your age and qualification against the rules as they stand on that day, then interviews you. There are no marks, no written paper and no shortlisting round before this. |
| 2. Online interview (the alternative) | If you cannot travel to Hyderabad, fill the Google Form and upload your filled application form together with all certificates as one single PDF, in the order the notification lists, on or before 30.09.2026. The institute then interviews you online. |
| 3. Selection | Selection rests on the interview alone. The notification warns that the number and level of posts may go up, go down, or be cancelled altogether at the time of actual selection, and that any false information can get you banned from future CSIR-NGRI recruitment. |
In short: everything rests on one interview, so there is no exam to prepare for and no cut-off to chase. What decides your result is the board’s judgement on the day, and whether your original certificates back up what you have claimed.
Salary and Benefits
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Project Assistant-II (PA-II) | Rs 20,000 a month plus HRA |
| Project Associate-I (PAT-I) | Rs 25,000 a month plus HRA, or Rs 31,000 plus HRA if you have cleared a qualifying national test |
| Project JRF | Rs 25,000 a month plus HRA, or Rs 31,000 plus HRA if you have cleared a qualifying national test |
| Project Associate-II (PAT-II) | Rs 28,000 a month plus HRA, or Rs 35,000 plus HRA if you have cleared a qualifying national test |
| Which tests count for the higher rate | CSIR-UGC NET, ICAR NET or ICMR NET including lectureship or assistant professorship, GATE, or a national-level exam run by a central government department such as DBT or DST, or their agencies and institutions. NET and GATE are national eligibility tests taken after a degree; clearing one is what unlocks the higher figure. |
| House Rent Allowance (HRA) | Paid on top of every figure above. The notification does not state the rate. |
| Other allowances and benefits | Not specified in notification |
| Travel to the interview | No TA or DA is paid for attending the walk-in interview |
In plain terms, the higher figure is not automatic. If you have not cleared NET, GATE or an equivalent national test, you get the lower rate plus HRA, and clearing one later is what moves you up.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Reaching after 10:00 AM. The notification is blunt about this: nobody is let into the venue once the clock passes 10, whatever the reason.
- Turning up on the wrong morning. Each post code has its own date, and there is no second sitting if you miss it.
- Attending while your final semester or final year result is still awaited. The notification bars such candidates outright.
- Carrying only photocopies. The board checks your originals against the self-attested copies on the spot, so leaving originals at home ends the interview before it starts.
- Sending the online-mode documents as separate files or after 30.09.2026. It has to be one single PDF, in the order listed, on or before that date.
- Expecting travel money. No TA or DA is paid for attending, so budget the Hyderabad trip yourself.
