Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Scrutiny of applications | SAIL checks every form received by 15.10.2026 against the eligibility rules. Forms that do not meet them are rejected. |
| 2. Shortlisting test (only if needed) | If a post gets more than 5 times as many applications as posts, SAIL may hold a computer-based test (CBT), or an aptitude, general management or psychometric test. The top scorers are called for interview in a 1:3 ratio, and everyone tied at the cut-off mark is called too. Marks and duration are not stated. |
| 3. Personal interview | If applications are fewer than 5 times the posts, all candidates may be called straight to interview. Tests and interviews are held at centres across the country, chosen by SAIL. |
| 4. Offer of engagement | Selected candidates get an offer, sign a contract and must join within 30 days. A merit panel valid for six months fills any post left empty if someone does not join or leaves in the first six months. |
In short: SAIL checks your form first. A test happens only for a post that draws a lot of applications; otherwise eligible candidates may go straight to the interview. The notification does not say how marks are weighed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Apply for only one engagement. SAIL says it is in your own interest, and you will be allowed in the test or interview only with a valid admit card or call letter with your photo.
- Do not apply if you will not have the qualification and experience by 15.10.2026. The notification says such candidates need not apply.
- Check every detail before you confirm. Once you confirm the form, no editing is allowed.
- Keep the photo under 50 KB and the signature under 20 KB. A form without photo, signature or documents will be rejected.
- Use an email ID and mobile number that stay active. SAIL sends all admit cards, call letters and results by email, SMS or its website only.
- Remember the Rs 500 fee cannot be refunded under any circumstances, and you pay bank charges on top.
