Minimum Sports Achievements for Each Level

Pay LevelYou need at least one of these
Level 4/53rd place or better, or represented India, in: World Cup, World Championships (Junior/Senior), Asian Games (Senior), Commonwealth Games (Senior), Youth Olympics, or Champions Trophy (Hockey). In athletics, a gold medal in the Open National, Inter-State or Asian Championships (Senior) also counts. In cricket, playing for India A or India U-19 in 2 Tests, 2 one-day internationals or 2 T20 matches counts.
Level 2/33rd place or better in Commonwealth Championships, Asian Championships, Asia Cup, South Asian (SAF) Games, USIC World Railway Championships or World University Games; or represented India in any of these; or 3rd place or better in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships, National Games or All India Inter-University Championships; or 1st place in the Federation Cup (Senior). Extra routes: an athletics medal in the National Inter-State Senior Championships; in hockey, playing an international tournament of 4 or more nations or reaching the semi-final of the Senior Nationals; in cricket, reaching the quarter-final of Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-State Championships (not Plate Group), or playing the Inter-Zonal Championship or Challenger Trophy.
Level 13rd place or better in the Federation Cup (Senior); or represented your state (at least 8th place) in the Senior National Championships (not for marathon and cross country); or 3rd place or better in Youth/Junior National Championships, National Games or All India Inter-University Championships. In cricket, reaching the pre-quarter-final of Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-State Championships (not Plate Group) also counts.

In short: your age and your recent medals decide everything here. There is no age relaxation at all, so an SC, ST or OBC candidate born before 02.01.2002 cannot apply either. If you meet the norms for a higher level, you may still apply for a lower level, but you must then give an undertaking that you will not ask for the higher level later.

Not sure whether you are within the age limit?
Enter your date of birth and the cut-off date 01.01.2027 to check in seconds whether you fall inside the 18 to 25 year band. Remember, this notice gives no extra years to any category.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Sports Trials (40 marks)Every eligible applicant is called for trials. A committee marks your game skill, physical fitness and the coach’s observation out of 40. You need 25 or more to be declared FIT. Anyone marked NOT FIT is dropped here. Trial dates and venue will be put on rrcmas.in, and you may get short notice.
2. Sports Achievements (50 marks)Only FIT candidates reach this stage. Your recognised sports achievements are marked out of 50 as per the railway’s norms.
3. Education (10 marks)Your educational qualification is marked out of 10.
4. Merit ListTotal is out of 100. Minimum marks to be selected: 70 for Level 4/5, 65 for Level 2/3 and 60 for Level 1. If two players get the same marks, the younger one ranks higher. Only players who fit into the Southern Railway team are considered.
5. Document Verification and Medical TestYou must show all original certificates on the day of the trials and document verification. Selected players must also meet the medical standard for the post.

In short: the trial is a pass-or-fail gate (25 out of 40 to pass), but those 40 marks are also added to your total. Half of your final score comes from medals you already hold, so your certificates matter as much as how you play on trial day.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don’t leave out your exact event or position — the notice says such forms are rejected outright.
  • Make sure the date of birth you type matches your 10th certificate exactly, because any difference disqualifies you and it cannot be changed later.
  • Don’t rely on a certificate from a federation the Sports Ministry did not recognise at the time of that championship; it won’t count.
  • Carry every original certificate to the trials, or you will not be allowed to play.
  • Don’t upload a photo with a cap, sunglasses or coloured glasses, or an old or blurred one.
  • Don’t send several forms for the same post and sport with small changes — multiple applications get rejected.
