* If no PG-qualified doctor comes for the interview in these three departments (General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery), MBBS doctors with two years of experience, one year of it in the concerned specialty at a government hospital or a private hospital (not a private clinic), can be picked for the 1-year Senior Resident post at Pay Level 10.

If no reserved-category candidate (SC, ST, OBC or EWS) is available, the post can be filled by another meritorious candidate, but only for 44 days, at the sole discretion of the Appointing Authority. The hospital can also increase, decrease or cancel any post without giving a reason.

Five posts are horizontally reserved for PwBD (persons with benchmark disability) in identified posts. Horizontal reservation is a quota that cuts across all categories instead of sitting inside one.

Eligibility Criteria

PostAge LimitQualification and Experience
Full Time Super SpecialistNot above 67 years on the interview dateA recognised medical qualification listed in the first or second schedule (or Part II of the third schedule, with the conditions of section 13(3)) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, plus M.Ch. or DM (or equal) in the concerned super speciality. Candidates with at least five years in the super speciality after the first PG degree will be considered.
Part Time Super SpecialistNot above 67 years on the interview dateSame as Full Time Super Specialist.
Full Time / Part Time SpecialistNot above 67 years on the interview date (relaxable as per rules)MBBS with PG degree or diploma (or equal) in the concerned specialty from a recognised university, with 3 years of experience after the PG degree, or at least 5 years of experience after a graduate diploma.
Senior Resident (3 Years)Not above 45 years on the interview date (relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and ex-servicemen as per rules)
Check your age eligibility →
MBBS with PG degree or diploma (or equal) in the concerned specialty from a recognised university. The Medical Superintendent’s decision is final.
Senior Resident (1 Year)Not above 30 years on the interview date (relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and ex-servicemen as per rules). No age relaxation for SC, ST or OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies.MBBS from an NMC-recognised medical college with two years of experience, one year of it in the concerned specialty at a government or private hospital (not a private clinic). You must have finished the compulsory rotatory residential internship and show the completion certificate at the interview. Registration with NMC or the Tamil Nadu State Medical Council is needed.

So the age rule is where people slip: the 1-year Senior Resident post stops at 30, and SC, ST and OBC candidates get relaxation there only on reserved posts, not on unreserved ones.

Not sure whether you are within the age limit?
Enter your date of birth, the interview date (28.10.2026, 27.11.2026 or 16.12.2026) and your category relaxation to see at once whether you fit the 30, 45 or 67 year limit for your post.

Who Should Apply

  • This is contract work, not a regular government job. Each contract runs one year at a time and can be extended yearly up to three years for the full-time posts and the 3-year Senior Resident post, and the notice says there is no claim to regularisation, PF, pension or gratuity.
  • If you have an MBBS and two years of experience but no PG degree, the 1-year Senior Resident post in Accident and Emergency (5 vacancies) is the one meant for you. The three starred departments can also go to MBBS doctors for one year if no PG doctor turns up.
  • For the Super Specialist and Specialist rows, the notice says priority goes to full-time candidates, so a part-time application has a weaker chance when a full-time candidate is present.
  • Keep cash ready for the security deposit: selected Senior Residents give a demand draft of Rs 30,000 (3-year post) or Rs 15,000 (1-year post), and the hospital keeps it if you leave within nine months.
  • Skip the 3-year Senior Resident post if you have already finished three years under the Central Senior Residency Scheme, because the notice says you are not eligible. Government employees need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.

Selection Process

StageDetails
Stage 1 — Registration and document checkBetween 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM on the interview date at the Conference Hall, 1st Floor, ESIC Hospital, Vannarpettai, Tirunelveli. You hand in the filled Annexure I form with your documents, and the staff check the originals.
Stage 2 — InterviewThe selection board interviews you. Its decision is final on every part of the selection and no further letters are answered. For the Super Specialist and Specialist posts, full-time candidates get priority.
Stage 3 — Selection order and joiningSelected candidates must join within 7 days of getting the selection order. The selection depends on medical fitness (and, for full-time Super Specialist and Specialist posts, a check of character and antecedents, meaning your past record). The contract starts after you submit a signed agreement on Rs 100 stamp paper.

In short: the notice names only a document check and an interview. There is no written test, so your papers and your interview are everything.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Reaching after 10:30 AM — the notice says registration and document check run only from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
  • Bringing an OBC certificate in the wrong format — only the Annexure A format works, otherwise you are treated as General category.
  • Applying for the 1-year Senior Resident post above 30 years and expecting relaxation on an unreserved post — the notice gives none.
  • Walking in without a NOC when you work for the government, or without the internship completion certificate for the 1-year post.
  • Showing a disability certificate from a doctor or hospital — only a Medical Board certificate with at least 40% disability counts.
  • Trusting an old date — any change to interview dates is put on esic.gov.in only, so check it before you leave home.
