Who Should Apply

  • This is a contract engagement, not a regular government job. It runs for 3 years and can be extended by up to 2 more years, one year at a time, at ESIC’s sole discretion. It gives no right to a permanent post.
  • The pay is one fixed monthly amount inside the band for your post. The selection committee fixes the exact figure after the interview, and ESIC says it cannot be negotiated or compared with what other selected candidates get.
  • There is no written test. Your application and your years of relevant experience decide who gets an interview, and the interview decides selection, so make sure your experience is backed by certificates.
  • The age caps are low for mid-career professionals: 45 years for the Actuarial Analyst, Statistical Officer and Technical Officer posts; 50 for the Senior Actuarial Specialists and the Data Governance, Data Engineering, Data Analytics and Data Protection Officers; 62 only for the Chief Actuary and the CDAO.
  • You cannot take up private practice, parallel consultancy or any outside job while you work for ESIC, and all models, reports and code you create belong to ESIC.

Selection Process

StageDetails
Stage I – ScrutinyESIC first checks each application for qualification, experience and age, using the details and documents you give online. Applications below the minimum eligibility are rejected straight away.
Stage I – ShortlistingEligible forms are scored on essential qualification, any desirable qualification and years of relevant experience. Up to 10 candidates per vacancy are called for interview, and all candidates tied at the last place are included.
Stage II – Personal interviewA committee of at least 3 members (an odd number) interviews the shortlisted candidates. A senior ESIC officer, not below Insurance Commissioner rank, leads it, and at least one outside expert in actuarial or data science sits on it. There is no written or online test.
Final merit listThe committee judges the interview, qualifications, experience and aptitude, and ESIC’s competent authority approves the final panel. A reserve panel of up to 3 candidates per vacancy may be kept for up to one year. The result will be on the ESIC website.

In short: there is no written exam. Your form gets you the interview, and the interview decides the final selection.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Apply only on the online portal. The notification says applications by any other mode will not be accepted.
  • Do not leave it for the last day. Applications after the closing date and time on the portal are not entertained.
  • Upload proof of your age, qualification and experience. Applications that do not meet the minimum eligibility are rejected at the first stage.
  • Do not ask anyone to put in a word for you. Canvassing in any form leads to disqualification.
  • Give only true information. ESIC will check your credentials and background, and can end the engagement at any stage if something you wrote is false.
  • Read the section for your own post before you apply. Qualification, experience and age limit change from post to post, and the Actuarial Analyst experience is written as 3 years in one place and 3 to 6 years in another.
