Cut-off Marks for Interview Shortlisting

CategoryPetroleumMechanicalChemicalInstrumentationGeology

OBC (NCL)555251No vacancyNo vacancy
SC534848No vacancy58
STNo vacancy51No vacancyNo vacancy57
EWS514949No vacancyNo vacancy
PwBDGiven by disability category in ONGC’s cut-off PDF (see Important Links below)

These are CBT marks. The CBT, or computer-based test, carries 85 marks. OBC (NCL) means Other Backward Class (Non-Creamy Layer), EWS is Economically Weaker Section, and PwBD means a person with benchmark disability, which is 40% or more disability. “No vacancy” means ONGC had no post for that category in that stream.

Shortlisted Candidates

ONGC has put the shortlist online as a PDF, stream by stream: Chemical, Instrumentation, Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering, and Geology. It shows each candidate’s registration number, category and PwBD status, but not names, so search for your registration number. ONGC says your CBT marks will be shown along with the final selection, not now.

The advertisement says ONGC calls about five candidates per post for interview, and everyone tied at the cut-off score is added as well. That is why some lists run longer than five times the posts.

What This Means for You

  1. Open the shortlist PDF and look for your registration number under your stream.
  2. If you are on the list, open the call letter link. Enter your Registration No or Roll No, your password (or your date of birth as DD-MM-YY) and the picture code.
  3. Download and print the call letter. ONGC does not post it to you, and the download stays open only until 29.10.2026.
  4. Read the call letter for your exact date, time and reporting instructions. Interviews start on 16.10.2026 at ONGC, SCOPE Minar, Delhi.
  5. Keep your original documents and self-attested copies ready (copies you have signed yourself as true). ONGC checks these at document verification, where it compares your original papers with what you filled in on your application.

Note: being shortlisted is not final. ONGC says it can reject a candidate who is found not eligible, even on the day of the interview. If your address is outside Delhi, the advertisement says ONGC pays one second-class to-and-fro train fare by the shortest route, or the fare you actually paid if that is lower.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not turn up with only soft copies of your papers. ONGC checks originals, and it can reject a candidate found not eligible even on the interview day.
  • Print your call letter before 29.10.2026. ONGC says downloading and printing it is your job, and it sends nothing by post.
  • Check the date on your OBC (NCL) or EWS certificate. Both must be issued on or after 01.04.2026, and an older one will not do.
  • Make sure the caste name on your OBC (NCL) certificate is spelled exactly as in the Central list of your state.
  • Do not treat the cut-off as your final result. It only got you an interview call. The final merit adds your CBT marks (85) and interview marks (15).
  • Ignore any message that asks you for money. ONGC says it takes no payment except the registration fee, and that you should trust only www.ongcindia.com.
