ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre is hiring three Scientist/Engineer-‘SC’ specialists at Valiamala near Thiruvananthapuram — one each in Welding, Turbo Machinery and Power Electronics. The unusual part is the eligibility: you need both a B.E./B.Tech and an M.E./M.Tech in the listed subjects, not one or the other. Registration opened on 29.09.2026 and closes at 2:00 PM on 13.10.2026.

Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Educational Qualification | You need two degrees, not one. A B.E./B.Tech in a listed discipline with at least 65% marks (the average of all semesters) or CGPA 6.84 on a 10-point scale, and an M.E./M.Tech in a listed discipline with at least 60% marks or CGPA/CPI 6.5 on a 10-point scale. |
| AMIE / IETE Candidates | Candidates with an AMIE or Grade IETE qualification (professional engineering exams treated as equal to a degree) need 65% marks or CGPA 6.84 in Section B alone. |
| Course Duration | Both degrees must have been completed within the normal course duration set by the university. Finishing late makes you ineligible. |
| Mode of Study | A professional course done through Open and Distance Learning (ODL — studying remotely instead of attending a campus) is not accepted, whatever the marks. |
| Age Limit | Maximum 30 years as on 13.10.2026 Check your age eligibility → |
| Nationality | Only Indian nationals may apply. |
| Physical Requirements | All three posts call for use of both arms and both legs, bending, communication, hearing, manipulation by fingers, running, reading and writing, sitting, seeing, speaking and standing. |
| Serving Government Employees | Staff of Central or State Government, a PSU or an autonomous body must apply with intimation to their present employer, and bring an original No Objection Certificate (NOC — written permission from your employer) to the interview. No NOC means no interview. |
| Foreign Degrees | A degree from a foreign university needs an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, produced at the interview. |
Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| Ex-Servicemen | As per Government of India orders issued from time to time. The notification does not print the number of years. |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities | As per Government of India orders issued from time to time. The notification does not print the number of years. |
| Departmental Candidates | As per Government of India orders issued from time to time. The notification does not print the number of years. |
So for most people this is a hard ceiling on 13.10.2026, with no extra years for OBC, SC or ST. Only ex-servicemen, candidates with a benchmark disability and existing department staff get relaxation, and even for them the notification points to the general government rules rather than stating the figures.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Written Test — Part A (Discipline Specific) | 60 multiple-choice questions from your own subject, 60 marks, 75 minutes. A right answer gives 1 mark and a wrong answer costs one-third of a mark, so blind guessing pulls your score down. |
| Written Test — Part B (Aptitude / Ability) | Up to 15 multiple-choice questions, 20 marks, 30 minutes. Covers numerical, logical, diagrammatic, abstract and deductive reasoning. There is no negative marking in this part. |
| Written Test — Part C (Descriptive) | Written-answer technical questions on the specialisation named in the advertisement, 20 marks, 30 minutes. |
| Qualifying Marks — Written Test | The three parts add up to 100 marks. You must score at least 50% in each of Part A, Part B and Part C separately. |
| Shortlisting for Interview | Candidates are called in a 1:5 ratio against the vacancies, with a minimum of 10 candidates, based on written test performance. |
| Personal Interview | 100 marks, and you need at least 50 to pass. You may answer in Hindi if you prefer. Original documents are checked here — anyone who cannot produce them is not allowed to sit the interview. |
| Final Merit | The written test and the interview carry 50% weightage each. An aggregate of 60% is needed overall. |
| Tie-breakers | Applied in this order: higher written test marks, then higher M.E./M.Tech marks, then date of birth, with the older candidate placed higher. |
In short: you cannot cover a weak part with a strong one. Clear 50% in each of Part A, B and C first, and only then does the interview come into play — and it counts for exactly as much as the whole written test.
Salary and Benefits
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pay Scale | Level 10 of the Pay Matrix — a government pay grade. The band runs from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500 a month. |
| Starting Basic Pay | Rs 56,100 a month |
| Medical | Medical facilities for yourself and your dependents |
| Canteen | Subsidised canteen |
| Housing | House Building Advance |
| Travel | Leave Travel Concession |
| Pension | National Pension System or Unified Pension Scheme |
| Other Benefits | Other social security measures, as per Central Government orders |
| Career Growth | ISRO uses a Merit Promotion Scheme: staff are reviewed after a set period of service and moved up to the next grade on merit, without having to wait for a vacancy to open. |
| Nature of Post | The posts are temporary, but the notification says they are likely to continue indefinitely. |
In plain terms, you start on a basic pay of Rs 56,100 a month and the grade itself can carry you to the top of that band over a career. The notification lists the allowances only by name and not by amount, so your in-hand pay will be higher than the basic figure, but do not fix a number on it yet.
How to Apply
- Open the LPSC recruitment portal and find Advertisement No. LPSC/03/2026. Registration runs from 2:00 PM on 29.09.2026 to 2:00 PM on 13.10.2026.
- Fill in the online form. Type your email address carefully — LPSC sends written test and interview details only by email and through its own website, and says it will not be responsible for a mistake you make here.
- Upload your photograph, and the certificates and mark sheets for the qualifications the post asks for. Uploading those certificates is compulsory.
- Enter your bank account name, number and IFSC code. This is how your fee refund reaches you later, so an error here means no refund.
- Pay the Rs 750 fee straight away, or return and use the ‘Make Payment’ option by 2:00 PM on 14.10.2026.
- Save the registration number the portal gives you. LPSC will not answer queries about it afterwards.
Note: Applying for more than one of the three posts needs a separate application for each. Nothing has to be posted to LPSC — no printouts, no certificate copies, no payment receipts.
Documents Required
| Document | Format / Notes |
|---|---|
| Passport-size photograph | JPG or JPEG, maximum 40 KB. Height and width each between 95 and 100 pixels. Face clearly visible, white or light background, eyes not covered by dark glasses. File name 25 characters or less, using only letters and numbers. Resize your photo and signature → |

| M.E./M.Tech certificate and mark sheets | Compulsory upload. |

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not convert your CGPA into a percentage to claim eligibility. If your certificate shows only CGPA, that CGPA must itself meet the limit, even if your university publishes a conversion formula — and rounding marks up is not allowed either.
- A professional degree earned through Open and Distance Learning is not accepted for these posts, however good your marks are.
- Applying for two or three of these posts needs a separate application each. If you submit duplicate applications for the same post, only the latest one with a fee payment against it is considered.
- Read your email address back to yourself before you submit. Test and interview details go out by email and through the LPSC website only, and a typo means you never hear from them.
- Get your bank account name, number and IFSC code right. The refund is paid online to that account, and only to candidates who actually sit the written test.
- Do not ask anyone to put in a word for you. The notification treats canvassing in any form as a disqualification.
