Who Should Apply

  • This is a fixed-term contract, not a regular government job. The notification says selected pilots cannot claim the same rights as regular port employees.
  • The work is shift-based. A shift is 12 hours, the cycle is 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts, then a shift off and a weekly off. You must complete at least 2 ship movements in a day shift and 1 in a night shift.
  • JNPA holds back 20% of your monthly package, up to Rs 3,00,000, until the contract ends. You lose it if you leave before 3 years or without 3 months’ notice, so think about this before applying.
  • You start as a Trainee Pilot and become a full Pilot only after the Ministry gives you a pilotage licence, so you need to be ready for at least six months of training first.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not apply through a website. The notification accepts only email or post, and the deadline is 30.11.2026.
  • Self-attest every copy. The notification asks for self-attested copies of all documents.
  • Do not forget the caste certificate if you are applying against an SC, ST or OBC (NCL) seat.
  • Do not ask anyone to push your case. The notification says canvassing, direct or indirect, can cancel your candidature.
  • Keep your Master (FG) certificate and pilotage licence valid throughout the contract. Unpaid leave for revalidation needs the Deputy Conservator’s approval.
  • Do not plan to leave early. Leaving before 3 years, or without 3 months’ notice, means the held-back amount is forfeited.
