Eligibility Criteria

CriterionDetail
Educational QualificationITI Trade: a pass in ITI in the relevant trade from a recognised institute (ITI means Industrial Training Institute, a course after school that teaches a trade). Graduate: a regular full-time Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from a UGC-approved university (UGC is the University Grants Commission).
Age LimitYou must have completed 18 years on or before 31.10.2026. No upper age limit is stated.
Check your age eligibility →
Year of PassingGraduate candidates must have passed in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026. This does not apply to ITI candidates.
Who Can ApplyCandidates from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry only.
Earlier ApprenticeshipYou should not have done, or be doing now, NAPS, NATS or the PM Interns scheme at NLC India Limited or anywhere else (NAPS and NATS are the national apprenticeship schemes).
ReservationSC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates get reservation as per the Apprentices Act (PwBD means persons with benchmark disabilities, EWS means economically weaker section). Certificates must be in the prescribed government format. An OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate must be valid from 01.04.2026. Without the right certificate you are treated as General category.

So a graduate who passed in 2025 can apply, but one who passed in 2021 cannot. An ITI holder can apply whatever year they passed.

Who Should Apply

  • This is training, not a regular job. It lasts 12 months, and the notification says it gives no right to a temporary or permanent job at NLC India Limited.
  • You must be from Tamil Nadu or Puducherry, and you will train at Neyveli or the Chennai regional office.
  • There is no exam in the notification. Your place depends on your marks, so a higher ITI or degree percentage helps most.
  • If your university gives CGPA or OGPA (grade-point scores instead of marks), you must upload a certificate that converts it into a percentage.
  • Do not apply if you have already done, or are doing, NAPS, NATS or the PM Interns scheme.

Selection Process

StageDetails
Trade Apprentices (ITI)Selection is based on the percentage of marks you got in your ITI exam.
Graduate (Non-Engineering) ApprenticesSelection is based on the percentage of marks in your Bachelor’s degree, worked out the way your university works it out.
If you have grades or CGPAYour university’s own method is used to turn grades into a percentage. If it has none, the grade or CGPA is multiplied by 10.
If marks are semester-wise or year-wiseThe average of the percentages from the first year to the final year is used.
If two candidates tieIf two or more candidates have the same percentage at the cut-off level (the last mark at which seats run out), the older candidate by date of birth is preferred.
Result and joining (tentative)Selected candidates are displayed on 23.11.2026 (Trade) and 25.11.2026 (Non Engineering). Joining is on 27.11.2026 (Trade) and 02.12.2026 (Non Engineering).

In short: there is no exam or interview in the notification. Your percentage in the ITI exam or the degree decides your place, and the older candidate wins a tie.
