Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Written exam (all posts) | An objective, multiple-choice (MCQ) exam in two parts. Part A is a Matric-level Punjabi language paper — it is only qualifying, which means you just need to pass it with at least 50% marks. Part B decides your rank: each question carries 1 mark and 1/4 mark is cut for every wrong answer. |
| 2. Typing test (Clerk posts only) | Candidates called by the board take an English and Punjabi typing test on computer at 30 words per minute. Punjabi typing is done in the Raavi font (a Unicode Punjabi font). The test is qualifying only — you must pass it, but its marks are not added. |
| 3. Merit list | For Clerks, one common merit list is made from Part B marks of those who passed the typing test. For Driver, Translator and Field Artist, the merit list is made from Part B marks alone. |
| 4. Counselling (document check) | Shortlisted candidates are called to show original certificates. The board decides how many to call, category by category. Those found fully eligible are recommended to the department. |
| Tie-breaker | If marks are equal, the older candidate ranks higher. If still tied, higher percentage in the required qualification wins, and then higher Matric marks. |
In short: only Part B of the written exam decides your rank. The Punjabi paper and the typing test are pass-or-fail steps you have to clear on the way.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Pick your category and its code (for example 101 for General, 103 for SC Mazhbi and Balmiki) carefully — it cannot be changed at any later stage.
- Check every detail before you click Submit, because the board allows no corrections after submission and accepts no requests for changes.
- Don’t apply under a category code that has no post in this advertisement — that alone gets your form rejected.
- If your online payment fails, your application is not counted as submitted, so confirm the payment went through.
- Fill the form yourself if you can; the board specifically warns against leaving it to a cyber café, since mistakes cannot be fixed later.
- Keep checking sssb.punjab.gov.in — exam dates, admit cards and results are posted only there, and nothing is sent to you personally.
