NTPC Recruitment 2026 – 19 SC/ST Posts, Apply Before 13.10.2026

Last updated: October 2, 2026 at 3:46 PM

Every one of the 19 posts in this NTPC advertisement is reserved. This is a special recruitment drive, which means NTPC is going back to fill backlog vacancies — seats set aside for SC and ST candidates in earlier rounds that were never filled — so only SC and ST candidates can apply to Advt. No. 13/26. The roles are all experienced engineering posts, from Assistant Officer right up to Deputy Manager, and the window is short: applications opened on 29 September 2026 and close at 6 PM on 13 October 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

CriterionDetail
CategoryOnly SC and ST candidates may apply. This is a special drive to fill backlog vacancies, so there are no UR, OBC or EWS seats in it at all.
NationalityOnly Indian nationals are eligible.
Educational QualificationA full-time B.E./B.Tech in the branch listed for the post, from a university or institution recognised and approved in India. Part-time and distance qualifications do not count.
Age LimitUpper age limit only — 45 years for the three Deputy Manager posts, 40 years for Assistant Manager and Engineer, and 50 years for Assistant Officer (Safety). The notification states no minimum age.
Check your age eligibility →
Cut-off dateAge, qualification and experience are all counted as on 13.10.2026, the last date for the online application.
Serving government or PSU candidatesFor the three Deputy Manager posts, at least 2 of the 8 years must have been in the pay scale of Rs 60,000 to 1,80,000 or above (NTPC E3 grade or equivalent). For Assistant Manager, at least 2 of the 5 years must have been in the pay scale of Rs 50,000 to 1,60,000 or above (E2 grade or equivalent). An NOC from the current employer is required in every case.
Medical fitnessSelected candidates must pass a medical examination by the NTPC Medical Board or Medical Officer before joining. The decision is final and no relaxation in health standards is allowed.

Age Relaxation

CategoryRelaxation
PwBDUpper age limit relaxed by 10 years, where a vacancy is identified for that category (posts A to E only)
Ex-ServicemenAs per Government of India guidelines
SC / STNo separate relaxation is stated — every post in this drive is already reserved for SC and ST candidates

So the age bar you face depends entirely on which post you apply for. A 48-year-old is out of the running for every Deputy Manager post but still inside the limit for Assistant Officer (Safety), and a PwBD candidate applying for any post from A to E gets ten years on top of the figure shown.

Not sure whether you are within the age limit?
The limits here run from 40 to 50 years depending on the post, and all of them are counted as on 13.10.2026. Enter your date of birth and that cut-off date to see instantly which of these posts you are still eligible for.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Application shortlisting or screeningNTPC shortlists on qualification, percentage of marks, and the number of years of post-qualification and site experience. It also reserves the right to raise the minimum eligibility standard if too many people apply. Meeting the advertised minimum does not by itself earn you a call.
2. Written or computer-based test (only if held)NTPC says it may run a multi-stage process that includes a written or computer-based test. The advertisement gives no marks, duration, syllabus or date for it, because NTPC has not committed to holding one.
3. Personal interview (only if held)May be used on its own or together with the test above. No weightage or shortlisting ratio is stated.
4. Medical examinationHeld before joining, by the NTPC Medical Board or Medical Officer. Their decision is final and binding, and no relaxation in the prescribed health standards is allowed. The detailed medical norms are published on careers.ntpc.co.in.

In short, NTPC has deliberately left the stages open. The one thing that is certain is the first cut, made on your documents alone — so the experience papers you upload, not a test score, are what decide whether you go any further.

Salary and Benefits

ComponentDetail
Deputy Manager (E4)Rs 70,000 to 2,00,000 a month
Assistant Manager (E3)Rs 60,000 to 1,80,000 a month
Engineer (E2)Rs 50,000 to 1,60,000 a month
Assistant Officer (E0)Rs 30,000 to 1,20,000 a month
Pay patternIDA, or Industrial Dearness Allowance — the pay system public sector companies use, where an inflation allowance on top of basic pay is revised every three months
Allowances and perksNot specified in notification
Place of postingAny NTPC office, station, project, joint venture or subsidiary. All posts are transferable at the sole discretion of the management.

These are pay bands, not starting salaries. A new recruit joins near the bottom of the band for the grade and climbs it over a career, and the advertisement says nothing about the allowances that sit on top, so treat the upper figure as the ceiling of the grade rather than anything you would see soon.

How to Apply

  1. Go to careers.ntpc.co.in and register with a working email ID. Only online applications are accepted — nothing sent by post or any other route will be looked at.
  2. Fill in the online form for the post you want, and choose your category carefully. Once you submit it, the category cannot be changed.
  3. Upload every document from the list below. NTPC says applications with incomplete or insufficient documents are liable to be rejected.
  4. Submit the form before 6 PM on 13.10.2026.
  5. Download the application slip the system generates, which carries your unique application number, and keep a copy for later. You do not need to post anything to NTPC.

Note: NTPC will publish any addendum, corrigendum or update only on its own website, so check careers.ntpc.co.in rather than waiting to be told.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Pick your category correctly the first time. NTPC states that once the category is filled in the online form it cannot be changed, and no benefit of another category will be allowed later.
  • Upload every single document while applying. The advertisement says in bold that applications with incomplete or insufficient documents are liable to be rejected and not taken further.
  • If you work for a government body or a PSU, get your NOC in hand before you start the form — it is compulsory, and so is a pay scale circular proving your years in the required scale.
  • Check that your degree is full-time. NTPC requires full-time qualifications from institutions recognised in India, so a part-time or distance degree will not be accepted.
  • Do not assume that meeting the minimum experience gets you a call. NTPC says plainly that it can raise the eligibility bar to cut down the number of candidates.
  • The portal closes at 6 PM on 13.10.2026, not at midnight — leaving it to the last evening is how people miss this one.
