Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Physical Standard Test (PST)Qualifying in nature. Male candidates: height 162 cm minimum, chest 81 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded. Female candidates: height 152 cm minimum. Commences from 22.09.2026. Candidates who do not qualify the PST are disqualified and are not permitted to participate further. An appeal against physical measurement may be allowed by the Chairman of the Board, and the re-measurement result is final.
2. Physical Endurance Test (PET)Qualifying in nature; only PST-qualified candidates may appear. Male: long race 1600 metres in 7 minutes 30 seconds, long jump 12 feet in three attempts, 20 push-ups. Female: long race 1200 metres in 7 minutes 30 seconds, long jump 9 feet in three attempts, shot put 4 kg to 14.5 feet in three attempts. Every event must be qualified separately; only those who qualify the long race may attempt the long jump, followed by push-ups or shot put. No re-take is ordinarily permitted after disqualification. The entire process is video recorded with RFID or electronic timing.
3. Scrutiny of Original DocumentsQualifying in nature. Candidates qualifying the PET must produce original documents along with self-attested copies. The scrutiny is provisional and all certificates remain subject to verification from the issuing authority.
4. Scrutiny / Assessment of NCC CertificatesIncentive marks up to 5% of the maximum marks — NCC “C” Certificate 5%, NCC “B” Certificate 3%, NCC “A” Certificate 2%. The certificate must have been acquired on or before 15.09.2026.
5. Desired Qualification TestIncentive marks up to 5% of the maximum marks of the written examination, for either (a) proficiency in driving with a valid Light Motor Vehicle Driving Licence carrying a transport endorsement, or (b) a one-year Certificate Course in Computer Application from an AICTE-recognised institution with documentary proof of recognition. A candidate may claim only one of the two. Candidates claiming driving proficiency sit a driving test.
6. Written Examination100 marks — the merit-deciding stage. Objective/MCQ type, 100 questions of 1 mark each, duration 80 minutes, bilingual in English and Hindi, no negative marking, of approximately Matriculation level. Date to be notified separately. Only candidates who qualify PST/PET and whose documents are found in order are eligible to appear.
7. Medical Examination and Character VerificationAfter the provisional selection list is declared, selected candidates undergo medical examination by the prescribed Medical Board, verification of character and antecedents, and verification of educational, category, domicile, driving licence and OSP certificates from the issuing authorities. No appointment is made unless the candidate is found medically fit and all verifications are satisfactory.

Merit and tie-breaking: the select list is prepared category-wise on cumulative merit in the written examination plus applicable incentive marks for the Desired Qualification and NCC certificates, after applying vertical and horizontal reservation. Selection against the 4% OSP reservation is made separately from a Sports Merit List. In case of a tie in aggregate marks, the older candidate by date of birth is placed higher, and alphabetical order of names is applied thereafter. A waiting list may also be prepared.

  2. Register using a correct and active mobile number and email address — the Board makes all correspondence by SMS and email, and the registered mobile number is also what you log back in with to edit your form.
  3. Fill in the application form with your name and date of birth exactly as recorded in your Matriculation certificate (or 8th pass certificate for eligible serving SPOs), and exercise your order of preference among the three cadre/unit groups: Executive/Armed/IRP/SDRF, Border Battalion, and Women Battalion.
  4. Upload a scanned colour passport-size photograph in JPG format up to 500 KB — white background, approximately 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm high, face occupying about 60–70% of the frame in full-face view, without cap or spectacles, and not older than three months from 24.08.2026 — along with the other prescribed documents.

Note: Date of Birth and Category cannot be edited after the initial submission, and some other fields also become non-editable once submitted. Applications received without the prescribed fee are summarily rejected and no representation against such rejection is entertained. Only one application per candidate is permitted — duplicate applications are rejected and the candidature cancelled. Blurred, miniature, poor-quality or side-facing photographs lead to rejection of the application.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying against more than one district. Women Battalion and Border Battalion candidates may apply only against vacancies of their own domicile district, and only one application per candidate is allowed — duplicates are rejected and the candidature cancelled.
  • Male candidates exercising a preference for the Women Battalion. Those 22 vacancies are open to female candidates only, and the preference will not be considered.
  • Getting the Date of Birth or Category wrong at first submission. Both fields are permanently locked after the initial submit, and any variation from the Matriculation certificate means cancellation at document verification.
  • Uploading a photograph that does not meet the specification. Blurred, miniature, side-facing or poor-quality photographs, or photographs with a cap or spectacles, are rejected outright — check the 500 KB, white-background, no-spectacles rule before uploading.
  • Choosing the exam centre carelessly. The recruitment is conducted at Leh and Kargil centres only, and the centre cannot ordinarily be changed once the application window closes.
  • Leaving the fee payment to the last day. The fee is non-refundable, and an application without a successfully paid fee is summarily rejected with no appeal.
  • For Outstanding Sportspersons — check the sports certificate cut-off. The notification prints 15.09.2026 as the last date for applications throughout, but the OSP clause refers to 11.09.2026 as the date by which the sporting achievement must have been attained. Treat the earlier date as the safe cut-off for your sports certificates and confirm with the Board.
