Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation in upper age limit |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, SEBC and women (all categories) | 5 years |
| Ex-Servicemen | The full period of service in the Defence Services. BSF, Coast Guard, CRPF and other paramilitary forces do not count. |
| Ex-Agniveers | 3 years for all categories |
| More than one category | Only the single most beneficial relaxation is given |
So an SC candidate who is 28 on 01.01.2026 can still apply for Constable (Civil). The 5 extra years take the limit from 26 to 31. The relaxations do not add up, so you get only the biggest one.
Who Should Apply
- Pick your job by your pass level. Only Constable OISF and Driver PMT accept Class 10; the other five jobs need +2, and Constable (Communication) needs +2 Science or an engineering diploma.
- Constable (Civil), with 4219 of the 7268 posts, is a district job. You choose one police district and must be registered with that district’s Employment Exchange (a government job-registration office) before you submit. Group D employees, Home Guards, Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers are exempt from this.
- Women can apply for Constable (Civil), Constable (Communication), Constable OISF and Traffic Constable, but not for Firefighter, Firefighting Driver or Driver PMT. In all, 1,819 posts are kept for women.
- Driver jobs need a licence you already hold: an HMV licence for at least 1 year for Firefighting Driver, and an LMV or HMV licence for at least 6 months for Driver PMT, counted back from 23.10.2026.
- This recruitment is not for you if you have a disability, cannot read and write Odia, or hold only an OBC or EWS certificate. Only the SEBC certificate is accepted for category benefits.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1: Common written exam (all posts) | 100 MCQs (multiple-choice questions), 100 marks, 120 minutes. Subjects are Odia, English, General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning, and Basic Computer Literacy. You get 1 mark for each right answer and lose 0.25 for each wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no marks. |
| Stage 1: Special paper for Constable (Communication) | 100 MCQs, 300 marks, 120 minutes, on Physics and Computer Science at +2 level. 3 marks for each right answer and 0.75 lost for each wrong one. |
| Stage 1: Special paper for Driver PMT and Firefighting Driver | 50 MCQs, 50 marks, 60 minutes, on vehicle knowledge and maintenance, and on traffic signals, road safety and rules. 1 mark for each right answer and 0.25 lost for each wrong one. |
| Stage 2: Physical test (PM and PET) | PM is Physical Measurement (height, weight, chest) and PET is Physical Efficiency Test (running, jumping and similar events). It is qualifying only. About 7 times the number of vacancies are called, category-wise, in order of written exam marks. |
| Stage 2: Driving test (Constable Civil, Constable OISF, Driver PMT, Firefighting Driver) | Open only to candidates who clear the written exam, PM and PET and have claimed a valid licence. The licence must be 6 months old (1 year for Firefighting Driver) on 23.10.2026. Passing the test earns bonus marks: 3 for an LMV licence and 5 for an HMV licence. |
| Stage 3: Medical examination | Done by a District Medical Board. Candidates are called category-wise, strictly on merit, as many as are needed to fill the seats. |
| Stage 4: Document verification | Original certificates are checked. The list is in Annexure H of the notification. |
| Final merit list | Written exam marks, plus NCC bonus marks (1 for an A certificate, 2 for B, 3 for C, only if claimed in the form) and driving marks where they apply. There is no waiting list. If marks tie, the older candidate ranks first, then the one with fewer negative marks, then the one with higher special-paper marks. |
In short: the written exam decides your rank. The physical test (PM and PET) is only pass or fail, and its results do not count towards your rank. NCC marks and driving marks, where they apply, are added to your written score.
Marks Counted for the Merit List
| Post | Marks added up |
|---|---|
| Constable (Civil) and Constable OISF | Common paper (100) + NCC marks + driving marks, where applicable |
| Constable (Communication) | Common paper (100) + special paper (300) + NCC marks |
| Firefighter | Common paper (100) + NCC marks |
| Firefighting Driver and Driver PMT | Common paper (100) + driving special paper (50) + NCC marks + driving marks |
| Traffic Constable | Common paper (100) + NCC marks |

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Sending more than one application. Only one is allowed, and a second one can get your candidature rejected.
- Typing a name, date of birth or parent’s name that differs from your Class 10 certificate. Basic Registration details cannot be edited, except once through Modify OTR.
- Counting on a correction later. After the final submission, no change is allowed.
- Uploading an OBC or EWS certificate. Only the SEBC certificate is accepted, and OBC certificates are summarily rejected.
- Paying the fee but not seeing the Confirmation Page. In that case the payment is cancelled and refunded, so you must pay again. Pay from your own bank account, because the refund goes back to the account you paid from.
- Waiting for the last day. The portal can get slow near the deadline, and OUSSSC is not responsible for applications that fail to go through.
