OM is Open Merit, the general category. SC and ST are Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and ST-1 and ST-2 are the two Scheduled Tribe groups in the vacancy list. RBA means Residents of Backward Areas, and ALC/IB means residents of areas next to the Line of Actual Control or the International Border. EWS is the Economically Weaker Section, OBC is Other Backward Classes, and PwBD means Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.

Ex-Servicemen: the years you served in the Armed Forces are taken off your actual age. If the result is not more than 3 years above the maximum age for the post, you meet the age condition.

So a general candidate born on 15.06.1985 is too old, because the OM cut-off is 01.01.1986. An OBC candidate born on the same day is within the limit, because the OBC cut-off is 01.01.1983.

Not sure whether you are within the age limit?
Enter your date of birth, the 01.01.2026 age cut-off date and your category to see instantly whether you fall inside the 18 to 40 year band (up to 43 for most reserved categories).

Who Should Apply

  • This is a direct recruitment, which means the posts are filled by open selection and not by promotion. The jobs are in the Union Territory (UT) cadre at Pay Level 6.
  • The 458 posts sit under two item numbers. Item 266 is Jal Shakti (282 posts) and Item 267 is Public Works (R and B), with 176 posts. You choose the item or items you want, and JKSSB considers you only for those. Once you have filled in your preference, the Board will not change it.
  • A 3-year diploma is enough, so you do not need an engineering degree.
  • Do not apply if you will finish your diploma or degree after 29.12.2026. Your qualification, domicile certificate and any category certificate must all be valid on or before that date.
  • JKSSB has not announced the exam date, syllabus or marks yet. It will put them on jkssb.nic.in later, so keep checking the website.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Write your name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name exactly as in your Class 10 certificate, or your candidature can be cancelled at verification.
  • Check every field before you submit. The Board will not change anything once the form is submitted and an application number is created, and it will not change your department preference either.
  • Use the prescribed format for your category certificate. A certificate in any other format is rejected, and you get no second chance to upload it.
  • Do not wait for the last date. The portal can slow down or fail when many candidates apply together.
  • Send only one application for the same item number. If you apply twice and sit the exam more than once for the same item, your candidature is cancelled and you can be banned.
  • Do not carry a mobile phone, smart watch or any electronic device to the exam. Even a switched-off device is banned.
