Northern Railway is taking 4,651 Act Apprentices for the 2026-27 training year, and there is no exam to clear: your 10th and ITI marks alone decide who gets a slot. An Act Apprentice is a trainee engaged under the Apprentices Act 1961. You learn a trade at a railway unit and earn a stipend, but this is not a permanent railway job. The online form opens on 11.11.2026 and closes at 11:59 PM on 11.12.2026.

The trade-wise slots for each unit are in Annexure A of the official notification.
Check that your unit has slots for your own ITI trade before you apply. A form sent for a cluster or unit with no slot in your trade is rejected and the fee is not returned.
Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Educational Qualification | 10th pass (Matriculation, SSC or equivalent under the 10+2 system) with at least 50% marks in total from a recognised board, plus an ITI pass in the relevant trade from NCVT or SCVT (recognised by the Government of India) |
| Result Status | Both results must already be declared on 06.11.2026. If your 10th or ITI result is still awaited, you cannot apply |
| Age Limit | At least 15 years and below 24 years as on 11.12.2026 Check your age eligibility → |
| Medical Standard | You must meet the physical fitness standards set under the Apprentices Act 1961 and the Apprenticeship Rules 1992 for your trade |
| Persons with Disability (PwBD) | Apply only against slots meant for your type of disability; the notification lists the maximum disability allowed trade by trade |
| Application Restriction | One application per person; if you send more than one, all of them are rejected |
| Category | Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| PwBD | 10 years |
| Ex-servicemen | Up to 10 extra years, limited to the service you gave in the Defence Forces plus 3 years (at least 6 months of service at a stretch); not for those who already joined a civil government job after leaving the forces |
So a General candidate must be born after 11.12.2002 and on or before 11.12.2011. OBC candidates can be born after 11.12.1999, and SC or ST candidates after 11.12.1997.
Who Should Apply
- This is training, not a permanent job. The notification says the railway need not offer you a job when training ends, and you need not accept one if it does.
- There is no written test or interview. Your rank comes from the average of your 10th percentage and your ITI percentage, counted equally, so every mark in both exams matters.
- Pick your unit with care. Your ITI trade must have slots in the cluster and unit you choose, and the unit cannot be changed after you apply.
- Do not apply if your 10th or ITI result was still awaited on 06.11.2026, or if you scored below 50% in your 10th.
- No hostel is given and no travel allowance is paid for the process, so plan your own stay and travel.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Online application | Choose your cluster, unit and trade, pay the fee if it applies to you, and upload your documents. Nothing can be changed after final submission. |
| 2. Scrutiny | Your application is checked. There is no written test and no viva (interview). |
| 3. Merit list | Made cluster-wise, trade-wise and community-wise from the average of your 10th percentage and ITI percentage, with equal weight to both. If two candidates tie, the older one is placed first; if the dates of birth are also the same, the one who passed 10th earlier goes first. Expected in February 2027. |
| 4. Document verification | You come with originals and self-attested photocopies, using the E-Admit Card from the RRC website. If the marks in your form do not match your mark sheet, you are rejected. |
| 5. Medical fitness | A medical certificate in the format of the Apprentices Act 1961 and Para 4 of the Apprentice Rules 1992, signed by a government doctor not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of a Central or State hospital. |
| 6. Contract of apprenticeship | Selected candidates sign a training contract before training starts; if the candidate is a minor, the guardian signs. |
In short: there is no exam. Your 10th and ITI marks decide your rank, and the document check and medical check decide whether you can actually start.

Documents Required
| Document | Format / Notes |
|---|---|
| Photograph | JPG, 10 to 50 KB. No goggles, cap, wig or coloured glasses. Resize your photo and signature → |
| Signature | JPG, 10 to 50 KB. Sign the same way everywhere; a signature in capital letters, or one that changes between stages, makes the form invalid. |
| Left thumb impression | JPG, 10 to 50 KB |
| Proof of date of birth | 10th certificate or a date of birth certificate |
| 10th mark sheet and certificate | Needed for the 50% check and for your merit marks |

Upload all of these with the form and keep the originals ready. Bring the originals and self-attested photocopies to document verification (the notification says one set in one place and two sets in another, so carry two), along with your medical certificate. Papers in a language other than English or Hindi need a translation.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not pick a cluster or unit that has no slot for your ITI trade. The notification says such a form is rejected and the fee is not returned.
- Do not send more than one application. If you do, every one of them is rejected and no fee is refunded.
- Enter your marks exactly as on your mark sheet. If you have a CGPA or grades, convert them to actual marks first; a mismatch found at document verification ends your candidature.
- Check your photo and signature: a photo with goggles, a cap, a wig or coloured glasses, an unsigned form, or a signature that differs between stages makes the application invalid.
- Do not wait for the last day. RRC takes no responsibility if the website jams and you cannot submit.
- If you are OBC, keep a Non-Creamy Layer certificate in Central Government format, issued on or after 01.01.2026, ready before you apply.
