Who Should Apply

  • This is a regular officer job, not a contract. You join as Assistant Manager in JMGS-I and serve a 6-month probation, which is a trial period before you are confirmed.
  • The notification lists only fire and fire-safety qualifications, so a general BE or B.Tech in another branch does not qualify on its own.
  • You can be posted at any SBI office in India. The bank says requests for a specific place may not be entertained, and it can also send you on deputation (a temporary posting) to its associates, subsidiaries or other organisations.
  • Your experience certificate must say in plain words that you worked in fire safety. If it does not, the bank can cancel your candidature at any point of time.
  • If you work in a government office, a public sector company or a bank, carry a No Objection Certificate (NOC, a letter from your employer allowing you to apply) to the interview.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. Online written testObjective questions, 125 marks, 2 hours in all. English Language: 50 questions, 50 marks, 40 minutes. Professional Knowledge: 75 questions, 75 marks, 80 minutes. There is no negative marking, so a wrong answer costs nothing
Professional Knowledge topicsFire Engineering (the Divisional Officers course, Institution of Fire Engineers and BE/B.Tech Fire and Safety syllabus), Fire Service Administration, and Fire Service Regulatory Acts and By-laws
2. Interview100 marks. SBI calls an adequate number of candidates category-wise, based on the test result and the number of vacancies. The bank decides the qualifying marks
3. Final merit listTest marks (out of 125) are scaled to 70 and interview marks (out of 100) to 30, making a score out of 100. The list is category-wise, in descending order. If two candidates tie, the older one ranks higher
Document checkAdmission to the test and shortlisting are provisional. SBI checks your originals only after you are shortlisted, and an ineligible candidate is not allowed to sit the interview
Exam centresThe test is online, at centres across India (list in Annexure I of the notification). You cannot ask to change the centre, date or session, and SBI can allot a different centre from the one you chose

In short: you must clear the online test first, and both parts count towards your rank. The test carries 70% of the final score and the interview 30%, so the written test matters more.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Leaving the fee for the last day. Your registration is complete only when the fee is paid online by 25.11.2026, and SBI is not responsible if the website is slow or jammed on the last day.
  • Uploading a file in the wrong slot. If the photo, signature, thumb impression or declaration is not in its own place, you will not be allowed to sit the exam.
  • Writing your signature or declaration in capital letters. SBI does not accept it.
  • Picking the wrong category. SBI does not allow a change after you register. OBC candidates in the creamy layer must apply as Unreserved, and EWS candidates without the Income and Asset Certificate must also apply as Unreserved.
  • Putting mehndi, ink or any chemical on your hands. SBI may check your thumb impression at several stages, and a mismatch can cancel your candidature.
  • Keeping spectacles or contact lenses on for the iris scan. SBI may scan your left eye and asks you to remove them.
