The Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, has approved 5,165 vacancies in the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) for the year 2026 — 3,477 posts at Graduate level and 1,688 posts at Under-Graduate level. The approval was issued vide letter No. E(MPP)2026/20/6/NTPC dated 03.09.2026, signed by the Executive Director (MPP), Railway Board, and covers 26 Zonal Railways and Production Units.
This is a vacancy approval letter, not the Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) itself. Eligibility, age limit, application fee, exam pattern and application dates are not part of this letter and will be announced when the RRBs issue the CEN. Zonal Railways have been asked to place their final indent in OIRMS between 07.09.2026 and 25.09.2026, after which the Nodal RRB takes over from 26.09.2026 onwards.
Station Master vacancies are not included in this approval

What Happens Next
Zonal Railways and Production Units place their final indent in the OIRMS portal between 07.09.2026 and 15.09.2026, not exceeding the vacancies approved by the Board.
The Principal Chief Personnel Officer (PCPO) of each Railway processes the indent between 16.09.2026 and 22.09.2026.
Indents reach the Railway Recruitment Boards between 23.09.2026 and 25.09.2026.
The Nodal RRB receives the consolidated indent from 26.09.2026 onwards.
The Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) carrying eligibility, age limit, fee, exam pattern and application dates is issued after this stage. No date for the CEN is given in this notice.
Note: While placing the final indent, Railways and PUs must ensure the prescribed reservation norms for SC / ST / OBC / EWS and other categories.
