Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
| Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (CBT) | 100 objective questions carrying 100 marks in total, 01 mark for each correct answer and no negative marking for wrong answers. Duration 90 minutes. The paper can be attempted in Hindi or English. Minimum qualifying percentage is 60% for UR / OBC (NCL) / EWS and 50% for SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen. Further selection is made on merit. Tentatively scheduled for November / December 2026, and the syllabus will be hosted separately on the NCRTC website. |
| Test Centres | Candidates must give preference for five cities while filling the online application, and no change is allowed afterwards. Options are Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kanpur, Agra, Vadodara, Indore, Thane, Pune, Guwahati, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Cuttack, Harohalli, Jaipur and Patiala. NCRTC reserves the right to assign any centre, or to cancel or add a centre. |
| Stage 2 — Medical Fitness Test | Candidates selected in the CBT undergo a medical fitness test. A-3 standard applies to Post Codes D01 to D05 and B-1 standard to Post Codes D06 to D09. Both require distant vision of 6/9 or better with or without glasses, near vision Sn 0.6, and present colour, binocular and night vision. Lasik surgery and any form of radial keratotomy are not permitted. NCRTC bears the cost of the first medical examination. |
| Document Verification | Eligibility is verified against original documents on the date of the medical examination. Candidature at every stage is purely provisional, and a candidate found ineligible at verification is rejected even after clearing the CBT. |
| Applying for more than one post | A candidate may apply for more than one post, but the CBT for multiple posts may be held on the same date and time — so a candidate can appear in the CBT for one post only. |
| After selection | Intensive on-the-job training, a probation period of 02 years, and a surety bond to serve NCRTC for a minimum of 03 years with one month notice on either side. |

How to Apply
- Go to the NCRTC website ncrtc.in, open the Career link, click through to Vacancy Notice No. 32/2026, and read the full notification before you start, so you are certain about the eligibility and age criteria for the post code you want.
- Register on the online application portal with a valid personal e-mail ID and mobile number, both of which must stay active through the whole recruitment. Your application number, login ID and password are sent to that e-mail and mobile.
- Log in and fill the application form with your age, personal details and educational qualifications, then upload the scanned photograph, signature and certificates in exactly the sizes listed in the next section.
- Preview the form carefully. It can be edited at any stage before final submission, but once submitted it can never be edited — so check every field before you submit.
- Pay the application fee of Rs. 500 (where applicable) by credit card, debit card or net banking on the payment gateway, then download the payment acknowledgement carrying your application number, transaction ID, name, category, fee and post applied for, and keep it safe for all future correspondence.
Note: Applications are accepted online only — no other means or mode of application is accepted, and hard copies of the uploaded documents do not need to be sent anywhere. Registration alone does not make you eligible for the examination: until the payment succeeds, the application is not accepted. The window closes at 23:55 hrs on 09.10.2026, and NCRTC advises submitting at least two days earlier to survive transaction failures.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not apply for several post codes expecting to sit for each one — the CBT for multiple posts may be held on the same date and time, so you will be able to appear for one post only.
- Do not pay one fee for several posts; a separate application fee is payable for each post applied for, and the fee once paid is never refunded, even if you are later found ineligible.
- Do not treat registration as an application — until the payment is successfully made the application is not accepted at all, and nobody will tell you it is incomplete.
- Do not submit the form without previewing it; it can be edited freely before final submission but never after, and requests to change your e-mail ID, mobile number or mailing address are not entertained under any circumstances.
- Do not apply with a part-time, distance or correspondence qualification — only full-time regular courses are considered, and for Post Codes D06 to D09 a higher qualification without an ITI certificate will not be accepted.
- Do not carry a mobile phone or any communication device into the examination hall — it is treated as misconduct and leads to immediate expulsion from the hall.
