Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian citizens only |
| Education and technical qualification | A certificate in your trade from any technical institution recognised by the Government (such as an ITI), or Class 8 (VIII Std) pass with 1 year of experience in your trade |
| Driving licence (MV Mechanic only) | A valid HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle) driving licence, needed to drive and test any vehicle in service |
| Age Limit | 18 to 30 years as on 01.07.2018 for unreserved (UR) candidates Check your age eligibility → |
| Application restriction | One trade per application. If you want more than one trade, send a separate application for each |
Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer, NCL) | 3 years |
| Central Government servants | Up to 40 years of age, as per Government instructions |
| Ex-servicemen (ESM) | Unreserved: up to 3 years. SC/ST: 8 years (3 + 5). OBC: 6 years (3 + 3). Your years of military service in the motor vehicle mechanic trade are deducted from your actual age first |
SC, ST and OBC (NCL) relaxation applies only to the vacancies reserved for them. NCL means the part of OBC that gets reservation, which you prove with an NCL certificate. The age limit is counted on 01.07.2018, not on today’s date. So an OBC (NCL) candidate who was 33 on that date is still inside the limit, because 3 extra years take the limit from 30 to 33.
Who Should Apply
- This is a Group C central government job (Group C is the basic non-gazetted level) on Level 2 of the Pay Matrix, with a one-year probation. The notification does not describe it as a contract or apprenticeship post.
- The posts are with MMS Kolkata in the West Bengal Circle. The notification does not name any other place of posting.
- If you applied after the 2018 or 2020 notifications, your old application is still considered. The notice says a fresh application showing your choice of trade from this list is better, and only your latest application counts if you send more than one.
- The notification describes one exam stage, a competitive trade test on your trade’s syllabus. It does not describe any other written paper.
- Check before you apply: the notice lists these as reasons for rejection: being under 18 or over the age limit on 01.07.2018, having no trade certificate or 1 year of trade experience, and (for MV Mechanic) having no HMV licence copy.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Scrutiny of applications | Your application is checked against the eligibility rules, and eligible applicants are called for the trade test. Rejected applicants get no reply, because the notification says no communication is entertained on rejected applications |
| 2. Competitive trade test | A test on the syllabus of your own trade, for candidates with the required qualification. MV Mechanic candidates must also hold a valid HMV licence. The syllabus, date, venue and duration come with the Hall Permit (the admit card) |
| 3. Final selection | Based on qualification, experience, seats in your community and the skill test. Having the minimum qualification does not give you a right to be called for the test |
In short: the notification describes one exam stage, the trade test. It does not give the marks, the duration or the pass mark.
