Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Educational Qualification | A bachelor’s degree from a recognised institute or university. |
| Experience | Two years as Junior Assistant or an equivalent post in a university, research body, Central or State Government, PSU or autonomous body. A reputed private company or corporate bank also counts if it has a turnover of at least Rs 200 crore and the pay package is equivalent. |
| Typing and Computer | Typing at 35 words a minute in English or 30 in Hindi. You also need to be proficient in computer operations. |
| Age Limit | 32 years, counted as on the closing date. Check your age eligibility → |
| Category Rule | If you belong to a reserved category but apply as General, you lose the relaxations. |
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, OBC (Central List), PwD, Ex-Servicemen | As per Central Government orders. The notice gives no year count. |
| At least 3 years of regular service in the same or an allied field | Up to 5 years, or the completed years of service if fewer |
| Departmental candidates of the University or its colleges | No upper age limit |
| Contract, daily-wage or ad hoc staff appointed directly by DU or its colleges, with at least 1 year of service | One-time exemption. Project-based and outsourced staff are not covered. |
| Minimum marks, where a percentage is prescribed | 5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and PwBD |
So a 36-year-old with 5 years of regular service in the same field is still within the limit: the 5-year relaxation takes 32 up to 37.
Who Should Apply
- This is a different advertisement from the DU notice we covered earlier, Delhi University Senior Assistant, Assistant Recruitment 2026 (Advt. No. R&P/323/2026). That notice had 80 Assistant posts and listed OBC and EWS seats (21 and 7). This one adds 215 more Assistant posts and lists only UR, SC and ST. The fee and the three-stage selection are the same.
- Check the experience rule first. You need two years of work as a Junior Assistant or similar, so a fresh graduate does not qualify.
- The fee exemption names only people who applied for Assistant under Advt. No. R&P/311/2024. The notice does not mention applicants of R&P/323/2026.
- Expect written work, not an interview. The Main exam is descriptive, meaning you write your own answers, and the scheme lists no interview.
- If you already work at DU or its colleges on contract, daily wages or ad hoc terms, you get 1 extra mark for each year of service (up to 10) and a one-time age exemption, provided you meet the notice conditions.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1: Preliminary test | An MCQ (multiple-choice) test with 100 questions, 200 marks and 2 hours 30 minutes. It has General Studies (20 questions), Reasoning (20), Mathematical Ability (20) and Administration of Higher Educational Institutions (40). Each question carries 2 marks, and each wrong answer costs 0.5 marks. It is for shortlisting only and has no weightage. DU shortlists 30 applicants for the first post plus 15 for each extra post. The cut-off is 50% of the average marks of the top 5% of candidates, with 5% relaxation for SC and ST and 10% for PwBD. Anyone tied at the cut-off marks is also shortlisted. |
| Stage 2: Main exam | A descriptive exam of 200 marks and 2 hours. It covers Educational Administration and Management, and the functional side of rules such as FR, SR, GFR, GeM procurement, pension and grievance handling. The final merit list comes from this exam. |
| Stage 3: Skill Test | 100 marks, qualifying only. You need 50 marks to pass. It covers the Office Procedures manual, noting and drafting, computer operations and typing. |
| Extra time and language | Candidates with visual impairment, cerebral palsy or another PwBD category get 20 extra minutes for every hour. Question papers are bilingual. |
| Bonus marks | Contract, ad hoc or temporary employees of DU or its colleges (as on 25.03.2021) get 1 mark for each year of service, up to 10. It is added in both the preliminary test and the final merit. |
In short: the preliminary test only decides who may sit the Main exam, so its marks do not count towards your final rank. The Main exam sets the rank, and the Skill Test is pass or fail at 50 out of 100.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- If you are from a reserved category, do not apply as General. The notice says you then lose the age and marks relaxations.
- Check the date on your OBC (NCL) or EWS certificate. Both must be issued on or after 01.04.2026, so an older certificate will not work.
- If you work in a Government department or PSU, keep your NOC ready. Without it, DU can cancel your candidature.
- Do not ask anyone to put in a word for you. The notice says canvassing disqualifies you.
- Do not leave the fee for the last day. It cannot be refunded, and DU accepts applications only provisionally.
- Watch du.ac.in for corrections. DU says any addendum or corrigendum is posted only on its website.
