UR means Unreserved (open to everyone). A backlog post is a reserved post carried forward from an earlier recruitment; the notice does not explain the term further. PwBD (VI-LV) means Persons with Benchmark Disabilities who are Visually Impaired with Low Vision. These PwBD posts are counted inside the vacancies shown, not added on top. SBI says the vacancy numbers are provisional and may change.
Eligibility Criteria
| Criterion | Detail |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian citizen |
| Educational Qualification (both posts) | Must have: MBA, PGDM, PGDBM or PGDBA (or equivalent) from an institute recognised by Government bodies, AICTE or UGC. Finance specialisation gets preference. Preferred but not compulsory: CFA, FRM, CA or Cost Accountant (CMA, earlier called ICWA). If your degree certificate does not name your specialisation, you must get a letter from the university that does. |
| Experience – Chief Manager | At least 7 years after your basic qualification, in forex and rupee markets. The work must be at a company, research firm, brokerage, bank, NBFC (non-banking finance company) or mutual fund. Teaching or training years do not count. |
| Experience – Manager | At least 3 years after your qualification, in equity, forex or debt research, at the same kinds of organisations. Teaching or training years do not count. |
| Age Limit | Chief Manager: 30 to 40 years. Manager: 24 to 36 years. Counted as on 30.09.2026, and the upper limit is for Unreserved candidates. Check your age eligibility → |
| Language | Good spoken and written English |
| Application Restriction | You may apply for both posts if you are eligible for both. If you send more than one application for the same post, only the last completed one is kept and the other fees are lost. |
| Category | Age Relaxation (Years) |
|---|---|
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 |
| SC / ST | 5 |
| PwBD – Low Vision (Unreserved) | 10 |
| PwBD – Low Vision (OBC) | 13 |
| PwBD – Low Vision (SC) | 15 |
Non-creamy layer means OBC candidates outside the better-off group that gets no OBC benefits. For the Manager post, an OBC (non-creamy layer) candidate can be up to 39 and an SC candidate up to 41, and relaxations cannot be added together. The Chief Manager post has only an unreserved vacancy, and the notice says reserved-category candidates applying for an unreserved post must meet all the unreserved conditions, so check the limit of 40 for yourself.
Who Should Apply
- This is a regular job, not a contract. The notice calls it a regular post with 12 months of probation (a trial period), and says these Specialist Cadre posts cannot later be moved into SBI’s general cadre.
- It suits people already working in forex, rupee markets or market research. Chief Manager needs 7 years in forex and rupee markets, and Manager needs 3 years in equity, forex or debt research, so a fresh MBA is not eligible.
- With no written exam, your experience papers carry the weight. The employer’s certificate must say clearly that you worked in the required field, and years spent teaching or training are not counted.
- If you work in a government office, a public sector undertaking or a nationalised bank, you need a No Objection Certificate (NOC, a letter from your employer allowing you to apply). Upload it with your form if you have it, or bring it to the interview.
- Be ready to work in Mumbai, the suggested posting. SBI can send you to any of its offices in India, and it will not entertain requests for a particular place.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Shortlisting | A committee set up by the bank decides the shortlisting rules, then calls a number of candidates for interview. Meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not guarantee a call, and the bank’s decision is final. |
| 2. Interview | Carries 100 marks. The bank decides the qualifying marks (the minimum score you must reach) and the interview centre. Call letters go out by email or are put on SBI’s website, with no hard copy. |
| 3. Merit list | Made in order of interview marks only. If candidates score the same at the cut-off mark, the older candidate is ranked higher. |
In short: only the interview carries marks, and the final merit list is built from interview marks alone. Shortlisting decides whether you reach the interview, but it adds nothing to your score.
Salary and Benefits
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Chief Manager – grade | Senior Management Grade Scale-IV (SMGS-IV) |
| Chief Manager – pay scale | Rs 1,02,300 – 2,980/4 – 1,14,220 – 3,360/2 – 1,20,940 |

| Allowances and benefits | DA (dearness allowance), HRA (house rent allowance), CCA (city compensatory allowance), Provident Fund, Contributory Pension Fund (NPS), Leave Fare Concession (LFC), medical facility and other perks as per SBI rules in force |
In plain terms, the pay scale is basic pay. It starts at Rs 1,02,300 a month for Chief Manager and Rs 85,920 for Manager, and it rises in fixed yearly steps, so 2,980/4 means four yearly raises of Rs 2,980. DA, HRA and the other allowances come on top.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not wait for the last day. The website can slow down near the deadline, and SBI takes no responsibility if you cannot submit in time.
- Check every field before you submit. No change is allowed after the window closes, and requests by post, email or in person are rejected.
- Do not apply twice for the same post. Only your last completed application is kept, and the fee for the other one is lost.
- Do not sign in capital letters. The notice says a signature in capital letters will not be accepted.
- Get your experience certificate worded properly. It must say specifically that you worked in the required field, or it may not be accepted.
- If you are OBC, keep a non-creamy layer certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026 ready for the interview, with the declaration SBI asks for.
