For the Manager post, an OBC (non-creamy layer) candidate can be up to 39 and an SC candidate up to 41, and relaxations cannot be added together. The Chief Manager post has only an unreserved vacancy, and the notice says reserved-category candidates applying for an unreserved post must meet all the unreserved conditions, so check the limit of 40 for yourself.

Who Should Apply

  • This is a regular job, not a contract. The notice calls it a regular post with 12 months of probation (a trial period), and says these Specialist Cadre posts cannot later be moved into SBI’s general cadre.
  • It suits people already working in forex, rupee markets or market research. Chief Manager needs 7 years in forex and rupee markets, and Manager needs 3 years in equity, forex or debt research, so a fresh MBA is not eligible.
  • With no written exam, your experience papers carry the weight. The employer’s certificate must say clearly that you worked in the required field, and years spent teaching or training are not counted.
  • If you work in a government office, a public sector undertaking or a nationalised bank, you need a No Objection Certificate (NOC, a letter from your employer allowing you to apply). Upload it with your form if you have it, or bring it to the interview.
  • Be ready to work in Mumbai, the suggested posting. SBI can send you to any of its offices in India, and it will not entertain requests for a particular place.

Selection Process

StageDetails
1. ShortlistingA committee set up by the bank decides the shortlisting rules, then calls a number of candidates for interview. Meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not guarantee a call, and the bank’s decision is final.
2. InterviewCarries 100 marks. The bank decides the qualifying marks (the minimum score you must reach) and the interview centre. Call letters go out by email or are put on SBI’s website, with no hard copy.
3. Merit listMade in order of interview marks only. If candidates score the same at the cut-off mark, the older candidate is ranked higher.

In short: only the interview carries marks, and the final merit list is built from interview marks alone. Shortlisting decides whether you reach the interview, but it adds nothing to your score.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not wait for the last day. The website can slow down near the deadline, and SBI takes no responsibility if you cannot submit in time.
  • Check every field before you submit. No change is allowed after the window closes, and requests by post, email or in person are rejected.
  • Do not apply twice for the same post. Only your last completed application is kept, and the fee for the other one is lost.
  • Do not sign in capital letters. The notice says a signature in capital letters will not be accepted.
  • Get your experience certificate worded properly. It must say specifically that you worked in the required field, or it may not be accepted.
  • If you are OBC, keep a non-creamy layer certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026 ready for the interview, with the declaration SBI asks for.
