UPSC ESE Recruitment 2027 – 480 Posts, Apply Before 06.10.2026

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 notification (Examination Notice No. 02/2027-ENGG.) for about 480 Group A and Group B engineering posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Candidates with an engineering degree, aged 21 to 30 years, can apply online at upsconline.nic.in from 16.09.2026 to 06.10.2026 (6:00 PM). The Preliminary exam is on 31.01.2027 and the Main exam on 18.06.2027.

Selection Process

Stage I – Preliminary Exam (Objective)Paper I: General Studies and Engineering Aptitude – 200 marks, 2 hours (common to all). Paper II: Engineering discipline – 300 marks, 3 hours. Total 500 marks. Negative marking: 1/3 of the marks of a question is cut for each wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks in both papers. About 6 to 7 times the number of vacancies are called for Mains, and Prelims marks ARE counted in the final merit.
Stage II – Main Exam (Descriptive)Two conventional (written) papers in your engineering discipline – 300 marks each, 3 hours each. Total 600 marks. Papers are set and must be answered in English only.
Stage III – Personality Test / Interview200 marks, no minimum qualifying marks. About 2 times the number of vacancies are called. Original documents are checked at this stage.
Final Merit and AllocationTotal of all three stages (500 + 600 + 200 = 1300 marks). Services are allotted by rank, your service preference and vacancies.

Salary and Benefits

The ESE 2027 notification does not state the pay scale. Selected candidates join Group A or Group B Central Government services, and pay will be as per the rules of the service allotted.

How to Apply for UPSC ESE 2027

  1. Go to upsconline.nic.in and create your account, then generate your Universal Registration Number (URN) – this is needed only once in your lifetime.
  2. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF): upload your photo, capture a live photo, and upload your signature (signed three times, one below the other, in black ink).
  3. Open the Examination Specific Form for ESE 2027, choose your engineering discipline and exam centre carefully.
  4. Pay the ₹200 fee online (Net banking, card or UPI) – not needed for women, SC, ST and PwBD candidates.
  5. Check every detail, submit before 06.10.2026 (6:00 PM), and save your URN and Application Number for future use.
