In plain terms: a General candidate for an engineer post must be 28 or younger on 01.10.2026. An OBC (NCL) candidate can be up to 31, and an SC or ST candidate up to 33. Relaxations cannot be added together.
Who Should Apply
- This is not a fresher’s recruitment. All 8 posts need at least 2 years of work experience after your qualifying degree, and the Secretarial post needs 12 or 15 years.
- Qualification and experience are counted as on 01.10.2026. If your final result or experience letter is not ready by that date, this round is not for you.
- Expect plant work. The notice says the posts run in one, two or three shifts and you may be asked to work any of them, and it calls CPCL’s work hazardous, which is why disability categories are limited for each post.
- You will sign a bond for posts 01 to 07: a written promise to serve CPCL for at least 3 years from joining, with a bond amount of Rs 3 lakh (General) or Rs 50,000 (EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwBD). The notice does not say what happens if you leave early.
- The first hurdle for posts 01 to 07 is a computer test, tentatively held at Chennai only. The Secretarial post has no written test, only a group task and an interview.
Selection Process
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (posts 01 to 07) | 120 multiple-choice questions, 120 marks, 2 hours. Counts for 85%. |
| Test paper | 50 questions on General Aptitude (English, general knowledge, reasoning, maths) and 70 on your subject |
| Test marking | 0.25 mark is cut for each wrong answer (negative marking). Held at Chennai only (tentative). |
| Stage 2 — Group Discussion / Task (posts 01 to 06) or Skill Test (post 07) | For shortlisted candidates. Counts for 5%. |
| Stage 3 — Personal Interview | For shortlisted candidates. Counts for 10%. |
| Minimum marks (posts 01 to 07) | 40% in the test and in the interview (35% for SC/ST/PwBD on reserved posts) |
| Post 08 — Group Discussion / Task | Shortlisting is on qualification and experience. Counts for 20%. |
| Post 08 — Personal Interview | Counts for 80%. You need at least 40%. |
| Post 08 — grade | CPCL decides Manager (Grade C) or Senior Manager (Grade D) |
| Final step (all posts) | Medical fitness |
In short: for the engineer and officer posts, the computer test carries most of the weight (85 out of 100), so it decides your rank more than the group round and interview. For the Secretarial post there is no written test, and the interview carries 80% of the score.
