Selection Process

StageDetails
1. ShortlistingGMRC screens applications against age, qualification, experience and pay-scale or CTC eligibility. Meeting the minimum requirement does not by itself entitle a candidate to be called for interview, and acceptance or rejection of an application is at the sole discretion of the management. Incomplete applications are liable to be rejected. Call letters go to shortlisted applicants by registered email with the time, date and venue.
2. Document VerificationHeld before the interview. Candidates must carry original certificates in support of qualification and experience, and submit photocopies along with their resume. A candidate who cannot produce originals will not be allowed to attend the interview. Government and PSU candidates must also hand over their NOC and last 5 years of APAR on or before the interview date.
3. Personal InterviewThe only assessment stage. The interview judges knowledge, skills, experience, expertise, aptitude and physical fitness. Preference goes to candidates with experience in the same grade, or in the immediate lower grade with 2 years in that grade. If enough suitable candidates are not available, candidates from a lower pay scale who meet the qualification, total experience and age criteria may be considered. No request for a change of interview date or venue is entertained.
4. Medical ExaminationConducted as per the category prescribed for the post. GMRC reserves the right to assess the fitness or otherwise of the selected candidates.
5. Offer of AppointmentThe selected candidate must indicate acceptance of the offer within three working days of receiving it, failing which the next candidate in order of merit is offered the appointment. The competent authority may extend this period depending on the exigencies, if requested.

The notification describes the process as personal interviews followed by document verification and medical examination, and separately states that document verification will be done before the interview. The order shown above follows that second, more specific instruction.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not submit the form before checking it in Preview — once submitted, the online application cannot be edited.
  • Private-sector applicants who do not attach their latest CTC breakup will have their application rejected outright, however strong the experience is.
  • Do not apply for a post whose minimum monthly CTC or pay-scale condition you do not meet — the experience alone is not enough at these levels.
  • Government, PSU and Metro Rail candidates who turn up without an NOC and the last 5 years of APAR risk losing the offer, and the NOC must reach GMRC on or before the interview date.
  • Carry original certificates to document verification — a candidate who cannot produce them is not allowed to sit the interview at all.
  • Do not assume your age is calculated from the last date — both age and experience are counted as on 19.09.2026.
  • Do not send an application by post or email; only the online form on the GMRC careers portal is accepted.
  • GMRC has published a public caution about fake interview calls and forged appointment orders sent by email — verify any communication against the official website, and never pay anyone for a GMRC job.
